💧 A lot of people seem to be unhappy with the EU directive on tethered bottle caps. 🙁

We love it! 😃

It’s a simple fix for a serious problem.
#MarinePollution kills millions of animals every year, and 80% of marine pollution originates from the land.
#ESD #Sustainability #GreenSky #EduSky
Why those bottle caps are a good idea!

AN EU DIRECTIVE WAS ENACTED IN JULY 2024, REQUIRING THAT ALL SINGLE-USE BOTTLES HAVE CAPS THAT REMAIN ATTACHED.

• In 2023, plastic bottle lids were among the top ten litter items found in rivers and the ocean.
• In the UK, 2023 beach surveys listed bottle lids as the third most common type of litter
• On the Dutch North Sea coastline, surveys recorded up to 128 bottle caps for each kilometer of beach in 2016.
• Bottle caps are also one of the most common items consumed by marine animals. Made with a more buoyant type of plastic, bottle caps also travel further across oceans than the bottles.

The tether creates one item of litter, not two, that is easier to pick up and less likely to be eaten.

🥇 #Accreditation is a way of ensuring students, employers, and government officials know that an institution or program provides a quality education.

The EDuC Label helps to accelerate #HigherEducation efforts to integrate coherent, structured #ESD into the student learning experience.

#EduSky
Why Accreditation Matters

WHAT BENEFITS DOES ACCREDITATION BRING TO INSTITUTIONS?

Students who want to apply for grants and loans often need to attend a college, university, or program that is accredited.

Many governments require that a college, university, or program be accredited in order to be eligible for state grants and loans or other funds.

Some governments require that a college, university, or program be accredited when they allow students to sit for licensure examinations in some professional fields.

Employers often ask if a college, university, or program is accredited before providing tuition assistance to employees, evaluating the credentials of new employees, or making a charitable contribution.

THE SCIENTIFIC CONSENSUS ON HUMAN-CAUSED CLIMATE CHANGE

Since the 1800s there has been rigorous research, study and testing of various hypotheses regarding the Earth’s climate and controls.
And yet, the scientific knowledge of the world’s leading experts, as well as the scientific consensus as a whole, is frequently under question.

Research has confirmed there is now a greater than 99% scientific consensus on human-caused climate change. Our leaders can ignore it, but they cannot say they didn’t know the facts.

NASA STATE:

“It’s important to remember that scientists always focus on the evidence, not on opinions. Scientific evidence continues to show that human activities (primarily the human burning of fossil fuels) have warmed Earth’s surface and its ocean basins, which in turn have continued to impact Earth’s climate. This is based on over a century of scientific evidence forming the structural backbone of today's civilization.”

⏰ Before previous COPs, China & USA have held bilateral meetings to ensure alignment. This year, China held separate climate talks with the EU and affirmed they would work together to achieve a successful #COP30.

Could this be important progress?
But with what geopolitical consequences?

Has China already won the battle for the energy of the 21st century?

Historically, the country that dominates energy usually dominates economics and politics:

• In 2024, the amount of wind and solar under construction in China was double the rest of the world combined.
• This has helped to China to reach an installed capacity of 1,200 GW six years ahead of schedule.
• The top four wind turbine makers in the world are all Chinese.
• China has majority market share for the manufacture and export of photovoltaic cells and electric vehicles.
• Many analysts believe this means the country’s carbon use will peak this year, or very soon.

COP30: Briefing
November 10-21, 2025 | Belém, Brazil

President-designate, André Aranha Corrêa do Lago, highlighted respect for science and the defense of multilateralism as key priorities.

COP30 Targets:

• Delivering ambitious nationally determined contributions (NDCs) aligned with 1.5°C,
• Swifter transition to renewable energy sources and the greater use of natural climate solutions,
• More investment from both the public and private sectors, especially into the countries most affected by climate change.
• Increased inclusivity and equity in climate policy, recognizing that the leadership of marginalized groups, like Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IPLCs), are essential.

GLOBAL PLASTICS TREATY : NEGOTIATIONS FAILED

Quote:
“We have decades of evidence showing the fossil fuel and chemical industries’ playbook: deny, distract, derail.
Fossil fuel companies are central to plastic production, as over 99% of plastics are derived from chemicals sourced from fossil fuels. Many of these companies are facing legal scrutiny over their role in the climate crisis.
[...] Involving the very corporations that profit from harm in shaping the path forward guarantees one thing: a treaty that protects their bottom line, not the public or the planet.

💥 We are living through the highest number of violent conflicts since WW2. We are also facing a #ClimateCrisis.

Every euro invested in armaments is NOT invested in climate resilience, affordable housing, or regenerative agriculture.

Contact your MEP to make your voice heard.
#SDGs #GreenSky
HOT TOPIC: POLICY
Investing in weapons could be labeled as “sustainable”.

MANUFACTURERS AND INVESTORS ARE CALLING TO CLASSIFY INVESTMENTS IN ARMS AS SUSTAINABLE AND ELIGIBLE FOR AN ESG (ENVIRONMENTAL, SOCIAL, AND GOVERNANCE) LABEL.

In its ReArm Europe plan, the EU issued guidance explaining how defense investment could meet ESG criteria by contributing to the UN Social Development Goal 16 (peace, justice, strong institutions).

An alternative viewpoint is that military spending is opposed to the primary purpose of ESG: to channel capital toward activities that protect and improve human and ecological wellbeing. And banks and other financial institutions should not be incentivised to profit from trade in arms.

The arms sector is repeatedly associated with corruption, opaque supply chains, civilian casualties and displacement. Labeling investments in such activities as “sustainable” undermines public trust. In a world of escalating crises, the allocation of capital is critical.
