At #COP30 Arab delegates, together with India, opposed references to the IPCC and to specific findings from the WMO. This was part of a “consistent attempt to weaken the reference of the IPCC as the provider of the best available science,” according to Bangladesh delegates.

🏭 During the fractious #COP30 talks, Saudi Arabia said targeting the energy sector was “off the table”, according to reporting from @carbonbrief.org.

The lines have been drawn, with regard to both committing to the #RenewableEnergy transition and climate disinformation.

Great to see our UK director Anna Krajinska interviewed by @jeevanvasagar.bsky.social for this piece in @theobserveruk.bsky.social on how the UK’s green transition is shaping up, and what’s at stake if we don’t keep up.

🔥 As #COP30 ends, it is almost incomprehensible to hear the UN openly acknowledge that we are engaged in a battle for the future of humanity, with opponents who either deny the scientific data or have succumbed to nihilism, choosing immediate wealth over a shared future.

Oh no, free energy. How can we possibly afford to phase out fossil fuels?*

*Bitter sarcasm.
☀️ #SolarPower has already been great for Australia, now the “Solar Sharer” program will offer free electricity during the day — which can be used to charge a battery or schedule laundry — reducing demand in the evenings after the sun sets.
Brilliant!

this is a deeply unsettling fact to have learned at 1am
Additionally, hippos - despite being massive - have almost no fat on them. All of that impressive bulk is muscle.

2% body fat. Compare that to Elephants, which are around 8-10%, or rhinos, which are 10-20%.

The average human is around 20-40%, for reference.

They're *all* muscle.

Hey! Northern hemisphere folks:

this is my annual reminder to myself and perhaps also to you that if you have the schedule autonomy to permit it, get out for a walk or whatever during daylight hours! It's important!

You can work more when it's dark but you need whatever sunlight is available!

But all of that is only going to get worse: Meta's project to brute-force an entirely new form of ultra-inefficient advertising slop into the feeds of most of the entire planet will bring something already-unprecedented into completely new territory.

It’s now a decade since the Paris Climate Agreement, and most countries are failing to meet their national targets.

#RenewableEnergy is now cheaper in most places than polluting fossil fuels. Yet the UN predict global temps will exceed 1.5°C, very likely within the next decade.

This is so important ⬇️
People want action, but the media wants clickbait — so they "both sides" the issue every time.
“Roughly 80-89% of the world’s people want their governments to ‘do more’ to address #ClimateChange, and nearly 2/3rds are on board with that action costing them a bit. Yet most think they are the minority, telling pollsters they believe that only around 30% also want stronger climate action.”
The Media Is Complicit in the Climate Confusion
The vast majority of people want their governments to take climate action—but most wrongly think they’re in the minority. The media is partly to blame.
