A great week at #AAIC25. Thanks to @alzheimerssoc.bsky.social and @alzassociation.bsky.social for the opportunity!

Was fun...and hot 🥵

And they’re off! 🏃🏿‍♀️‍➡️🏃🏽‍♂️‍➡️🏃🏻‍♀️‍➡️ This morning, #AAIC25 attendees are enjoying stunning waterfront views as they make their way down Toronto’s scenic Martin Goodman Trail during our AAIC 5K Run/Walk.
Runners cross the starting line at the 5k fun run. Runners run along the water with a sunrise background.

Come and hear about how the synaptic protein, SV2a, is not always found at synapses. To find out where else it is, come and see our group's poster #384 today. #AAIC25

#AAIC25 Come and hear about synaptic proteomic changes over disease progression presented by the amazing Tatiana Georgiades in work funded by @alzheimerssoc.bsky.social

Sometimes I can't find it anywhere in the paper!

This! Looking at my summer of deadlines whilst juggling childcare...😭

We have a new paper alert🎉

This work compiles all reported protein changes in the cerebrospinal fluid of Alzheimer’s patients across studies using mass spectrometry, Olink, and SomaScan platforms.

Check it out here:

Super proud of my PhD student, Tatiana, for being chosen as an @istaart.bsky.social Ambassador!

Delighted to welcome our new class of ISTAART Ambassadors for 2025! This year's 43 Ambassadors represent 27 countries across the globe. They'll work with us at #AAIC25 Toronto & online & we'll be mentoring them over the next year!

Meet them at alz.org/ISTAARTambassadors

I've added you to the synapse starter pack...welcome!

Congratulations to my first Imperial PhD student Eleonore Schneegans! It's been a pleasure supervising you with Nurun Fancy and Paul Matthews. And thanks to the amazing examiners @sj-marzi.bsky.social and @ppetra.bsky.social. Pretty much an all woman dream team 😍

Would be happy to help review

I don’t think many of my American scientist friends will leave the US despite the recent political changes affecting the NIH.

But if they were interested, they should apply to become centre director here in Cardiff!

This opens up new synaptic tragets and avenues for the therapeutic targeting of synapses in AD. This was a great team effort by Jessica Griffiths joint with Seth Grant lab, Eleonore Scheegans and the UKDRI MAP team. The end. 6/6

Taken together, we believe we have derived a pseudotemporal profile of synaptic changes in human AD and shown that they are associated with changes in the astrocyte proteome, particularly that of PAPs. 5/6
jojacksonhere.bsky.social
Alongside these synaptic changes, we found a astrcoyte signature that was enriched for proteins at the peri-synaptic astrocytic processes (PAPs). This astrocyte signature increased with pathology and was associated with reduced synaptic resilience. 4/6
jojacksonhere.bsky.social
Mitochondrial proteomic changes dominated in the low pathology region, inhibitory changes in the mid pathology region and widespread synaptic transmission pathways were most prominant in the higher pathology region. 3/6
