Is this the one? Spend a little too much time thinking about housing // transit // climate // cool maps. And not enough time learning how to garden properly. Member of the Montgomery County Planning Board, but all posts and opinions here are my own

I am heartbroken for the families and the community at Earle B. Wood Middle school. As a parent this is an unimaginable tragedy, a nightmare. My deepest condolences to the family and friends of the little girl.

I am in touch with MCPS, MCPD, and MCDOT to get information as it is available.

Amazing, love that so much

One thing I absolutely love about riding a cargo bike around, is how often people will stop to talk to you about it. Especially if it's outfitted with lots of kid gear and associated stickers 😂

So many people are interested in accessible, non-car ways of getting around. It gives me so much hope

More of this. No part of these deployments and assaults on US cities should go unchallenged, and the larger the coalition pushing back, the better

National Guard troops should not be deployed for political purposes. These deployments are about power, not public safety, and they threaten every state’s ability to govern itself and protect its people.

Rec center + senior living, apt renovation, other apts new and old, protected bike lanes, balcony tomatoes...what's not to love?!

One thing you'll notice if you follow the good folks at @actfortransit.bsky.social long enough (or in this case...just 5 months), is that problem intersections always come back for a sequel

Another thing you'll notice is just how many problem intersections are absolutely huge, complicated, or both

On Wed 8/20/25 2:20 pm
the driver (79/F) of a 2022 Buick Encore
who failed to yield ROW while turning right from Connecticut Ave/185 to Aspen Hill Rd
hit & injured a person (29/M) on an e-bike
who was crossing in a marked crosswalk.
Police (MCP3230007H) found both at fault.👀
Satellite image of another damn overbuilt four-way intersection. Northbound Connecticut Avenue alone has two left-turn lanes, three through lanes, and one right turn lane. Anyway, there is a red X in the east leg marked crosswalk, indicating the location of the crash. There is a red arrow from the northbound right turn lane toward the red X, indicating the right turn path of the driver to going east on Aspen Hill Road. There is a blue arrow pointing south in the marked crosswalk toward the red X, indicating the path of the bicyclist.

ICE is not only chasing down every random brown person in Chicago, they have a cameraman following them to film this for social media. Cruelty and inhumanity as content.

What an unforgettable afternoon with

The energy, the smiles, and the singing made it a ride we'll never forget.

Agreed, the more of that the better. The dominant engineer culture to treat safety evaluations as a strictly scientific/objective process just devalues the "unscientific" input from residents

When in reality, that approach just preferences a certain outcome. And changing that is 100% political

There are lots of good people within DOTs trying to move the needle and make some positive change. Very thankful for them

But how do we actually shake loose from the systemic issues that prevent real progress? I just don't know
joshlinden.bsky.social
The groundswell of righteous anger and grief that sparks quick DOT action does little, sadly, to change a DOT's internal culture or devotion to (often ridiculous) status quo processes

How many other safety improvement requests have been denied for areas just list this, or for stop signs, or for...
joshlinden.bsky.social
Or, they'll revert back to saying a (known-to-be effective) safety treatment requires study and a traffic impact analysis. And those studies and analyses continue to use arcane, out of date, and wildly arbitrary criteria
joshlinden.bsky.social
This horrible story captures the street safety paradox

Requests are ignored or given lip service...until a tragedy creates public pressure that DOTs can't escape

Advocates will then ask for similar improvements elsewhere...to which DOTs will say, actually *this* street is different (for...reasons)
joshlinden.bsky.social
Every time this happens, I brace for a story like this. Just devastating, heartbreaking, beyond infuriating

There is a lot to say about that state-owned highway, and state-owned highways in general that go through urban and residential areas. None of it is good

The International Energy Agency forecasts renewables to double generation capacity in the next 5 years. But...their report also dramatically lowered the outlook for the US, revising downward their renewables forecast by 50%

Imagine what we could do if we weren't self-sabotaging

Really hopeful trends. As of mid-2025, solar and wind (combined) made up a larger share of global electricity generation than coal for the first time on record

Just as notable - the growth of solar + wind outpaced rising electricity demand. I wonder how long they can maintain that pace...

Finally made it over to the newly renovated Caroline Freeland park. Fun & biiig play area, blend of active & social areas, tables with built in shade umbrellas (!), walkable from lunch, and overall good vibes on an autumn weekend morning. 10/10 kid approved

Awesome job @montgomeryparks.bsky.social!
