it's broken containment people who have no idea who I am and no interest in reading the second, clarifying post in this thread which literally says "fuck no" are arguing with me without clicking, this is my life now, I can blame the subs but In the structure of this thread I did this to myself

When we say a system is broken we generally mean it has become a different system. The outputs have changed for reasons we don’t understand. Experts in using the old system are often not much help when it comes to fixing that situation. They know one system well and that system no longer exists

What with all this the UK should emulate Dubai stuff, following hot on the heels of Singapore model, are there any other niche authoritarian city states we could go for? Brunei? Machiavelli’s Florence? Ancient Sparta?

Ever since I finished Question Time, Reform have massively been on the attack.

Including a rant from Richard Tice entirely designed to distract from Reform and Russia.

Everyone should know about Nathan Gill, the bribes from Russia and the link to Reform.

Our definitions of fascism tend to be context specific. They answer the academic / historical question “was this fascism”. When it comes to “Is this resurgent fascism and what can we do about it?” they’re not much use

Our classrooms are not safe for us or regular students. Our universities canot be relied upon to protect us. You have to keep speaking up about this. Faculty already are, but we need folks who aren’t in academia raising the alarm for everyone else. The End.

One of the cartoons in my new book 'Physics for Cats' which is out now in the UK, USA, Canada, France and Germany. Order from your local bookshops or online: www.tomgauld.com/
Two beetles on a stick.
One beetle says to the other "Do you ever get the feeling we are being observed by another lifeform"
Zoom out to reveal that they are in a glass case with two scientists studying them.
One scientist says to the other "Do you ever get the feeling we are being observed by another lifeform"
Zoom out into space. Abouard a spaceship, two aliens watch the scientists on a screen.
One alien says to the other "Do you ever get the feeling we are being observed by another lifeform"
The aliens turn to look out at the reader.

Text below the cartoon reads:
From 'Physics for Cats' by Tom Gauld. Preorder it at www.tomgauld.

🧵🚨

The UK’s independent scientific bodies are highly vulnerable to politicisation - over the past 5 months I've been working with @martinmckee.bsky.social to map out their vulnerabilities and it's not good news.

Today our report is published!

Only after the bungalows have been built. Priorities!

Personally I was thinking more along the lines of building bungalows that older people who used to play golf could live in and so free up family homes for younger generations but each to their own: hoa.org.uk/news/bring-b...

A request to keep this crowdfunder rolling...

We're rebuilding media from the grassroots up. Our empowering of citizens to write news has generated over 20 million article reads and vast social media and search engine reach.

This is a lie.

There are many criticisms you might sensibly and truthfully make of the Sentencing Council and the Sentencing Guidelines. I’ve been making them for years.

But this is an outright lie. Pure fabrication. A fraud on the public.

“Every mis-selling scandal triggers compensation, every complaint is met with tightening rules”. Well yes. Could it be that investors are not so much deterred by over-regulation as by corruption and crime?

It’s important to flood social media and news channels with news about how ICE lies, so that potential jurors see it.

Important to note that it’s not social media itself that’s the problem, it’s what bad actors do with it. People were saying the same thing about radio in the 1920’s

A riddle for @theguardian.com books page.
p.s. My new book 'Physics for Cats' is out this week in bookshops and online. Details at www.tomgauld.com
Title: One door leads to freedom, the others to certain death. You may ask one question.

Image: Three guards with shields and speard stand in front of three doors. One guard sits at a folding table working at a typewriter, his shield and spear leaning against the wall.

Caption: One guard always tells the truth, one always tells lies, and the third always tells an entrancing story that blends reportage with imagination in an attempt to reach a deeper authenticity by moving beyond the narrow categories of fact and fiction.
