Edea's design choice is so genius to me though because Matron Edea is so down-to-earth and plain, Sorceress Edea (with Ultimecia) is like... low cut dress with a very eccentric and unique head piece. It's a great contrast

Ultimecia is insanely funny because she has a super menacing parade, gets on stage and tells the crows how worthless they are, k*lls Deling President backstage and then puts an icicle into Squall's shoulder like omg was that all necessary. She's evil for the love of the game.

I don’t regret making it because it was important to me, it’s a shame people will continue to see political themes as “bad” when it doesn’t align with believes rooted in discrimination and power imbalance. But I’d rather weed those people out of my space to find the gems😌

Phewee need to detox a bit after that video, people are slowly beginning to not pass the vibe check more and more but I feel happy for the people who got the message and meaning.

Square does have anti-harassment measures in place for workers but it’s scary when bigger names use their influence for hate. Some are so hateful over fem characters even existing (unless they are sexy or something lol)

I have no clue, like Heavensward and Stormblood especially are heavy political. I feel bad bc the voice actress for Wuk Lamat has struggled with so much backlash and harassment just for her trans identity, it’s not so simple as being to ignore it in such a case. I hope she can be safe.

And sadly with XIV, the inclusion of a trans voice actress in Dawntrail has made grifters angry, one streamer has been campaigning that a translator be removed from square over reposts of why facism is bad, and even made a “make Eorzea great again” hat.

There’s a whole section of FFXIV gamers saying this and it’s been very ugly. I already had a TikTok comment saying “FF is political but not reflective of real world politics” when discussing tactics and said climate change was a hoax when talking about FF7.

Like if ppl vehemently thinking FF is as simple as “bad guy vs good guy” without wondering what makes the bad guys bad, especially when based on writer/dev IRL experiences and perspectives, it’s naive to me to only look at the game from a shallow perspective to deny lived experiences

nothing wrong with being a straight man, and it’s not right to dehumanize anyone but people who are oppressed would be upset/resentful over a system that treats people unfairly

I blocked the person I don’t want that in my space + I saw they argued with a gay voice actor for talking politics too

Yeah, the guy who said that events of FF aren’t happening today or “it’s possible they occurred before” reeked of privilege and when I pointed out my experiences, I got “as a straight man” and “yes Argath dehumanized commoners but nobles are dehumanized too!” To “climate change is a hoax”

Also, respectfully, saying that the events of a FF game are separate from the real world which makes it immersive feels… wrong to me. FFX hit me because of the religious indoctrination and corruption that’s taken root in a lot of people and stuff. Idk😭

Making a little short about why politics in gaming (esp FF) shouldn't be seen as a bad thing and woke/DEI isn't constructive criticism and I know it's probably going to attract tons of bad faith gamer bros but... I hope to find open minded people who agree with me too yanno?

hopefully the short, while a little blabbery, would clarify my stances that politics has its place in games/FF (and tbh, all kinds of media) bc we want to express what has impacted us!
