When this came out I was in college and had to drive two hours to the only theatre that was playing it to see it. I did that twice. The movie is great.

It's performative, but that's the point. It's to get the disengaged engaged and if people were really concerned about them being ineffective, they could use it as an opportunity to build community efforts with their neighbors.

While I get people calling No Kings performative, that's the point. "It's a parade," good that will get families and seniors out in numbers to send a message to the politically tuned out. People should be out there using it as an opportunity to build community with people you wouldn't ordinarily.

This is the result of a lot of people pretending racism is one of the greatest taboos in our culture while failing to address racism substantively. People are appalled by the idea of being called racist while being totally committed to upholding racism throughout society.

Every time a Democrat gets caught on tape saying like “Some Trump voters are racist” we have a national scandal and JD Vance demands an entirely new kind of apology and meanwhile every Republican group chat is like “Good morning fellow SS members. Who’s ready to respect Hitler today?”

Among white liberals it's probably "they were nice to me" bias. Because they weren't the ones being called slurs. I have been under no illusions, because I've been called the R and F-slur by these people since high school.

Someone way smarter than me needs to write up a history as to why the Universal Monsters version of Frankenstein is so dramatically different from the source novel. I know the Dracula adaptation had the stage play to lean on.
