It's Delco Eats Week over at @phillymag.com where we ponder the question "Is Delco Philly's most overlooked, unsung, underrated dining destination?" Short answer: YES! And here's the proof: www.phillymag.com/tag/delco-ea...

‘Tis the season when I remind everyone that spooky foods tinted black with activated charcoal can impact the effectiveness of medications… including birth control!

A group of Floridians tried to sue Hershey for $5 million because the holiday Reese’s cups don’t look like pumpkins, bats, and ghosts. Everyone knows they look like amorphous blobs and we don’t care. The peanut butter to chocolate ratio is perfection. www.usatoday.com/story/money/...
Customers say they were tricked by Reese's pumpkins. See who won the lawsuit.
A Florida judge dismissed a case brought against Hershey's in 2024, accusing the company of deceptive marketing for Reese's Peanut Butter chocolates.

Before cheesesteaks, catfish & waffles was Philadelphia’s most iconic dish. Now, a new take on the historic meal is putting it back on the menu, thanks to a sustainable (and unlikely) solution. www.phillymag.com/foobooz/2025...

WHAT SIDE OF WWI ARE WE ON, RICHARD SCARRY?!

Not Richard Scarry sneaking the WWI Imperial German Army into my daughter’s storytime with a fox wearing a pickelhaube flying a Fokker Eindecker III.

That’s because Dirty Franks lives up to the dive-bar expectation they establish.

Bars and restaurants need to be real about the expectations they set. Because we all know that the distance between expectations and reality is measured in disappointment.

People think I’m overexaggerating about the honey getting all over my hands and forearms and that I should have just “wipe it off.” Have you ever tried to wipe up honey with a cloth napkin? It just sticks to the cloth. I shouldn’t have to go wash up with soap and water just because I had a cocktail.

Next, to people think I write a bunch of hit pieces; obviously you’ve never read or seen my work. I literally host the friendliest restaurant review show on @whyy.org called Check, Please! Philly. Also, this is the first negative story I’ve ever written in my career.

Further proof that I was excited to check out the Newsroom: I commented on @whyy.org Studio 2 host Cherri Gregg’s IG post about the “speakeasy” that I was excited to go.

So, people think I had it out for this place, but I earnestly went there thinking I’d have a good time. In fact, I invited someone I was meeting in person for the first time to join me because I thought it would be cool, and afterward, I was really embarrassed I recommended the place.

People know that I rarely say anything bad about a bar or restaurant. So when I complain, you KNOW it’s bad. This is the most brutal review I have ever written.

Here’s my play-by-play of the Newsroom, Philly’s worst new bar. www.phillymag.com/foobooz/2025...

I’ve never had a dining experience where EVERYTHING went wrong. I’ll ignore one or two mistakes. But this was so blatantly bad.

I didn’t even get the right receipt at the end of the night so now I gotta take it up with accounting for my expense report.

A passage in which the review describes a harrowing incident with a butane torch:

"The churrasco steak was plated on a Chili’s sizzling fajitas-style cast-iron skillet and also required a blowtorch. But when the server tried to squeeze between the tables — which were uncomfortably close to one another — he dropped the butane torch. As it tumbled to the floor, my mind jumped straight to the worst possible conclusion. I always felt like I’d go out with a bang, but not like this. Not in a fiery explosion in the underbelly of the final boss of gentrification. Luckily, there was no explosion. The head of the torch just detached from the butane canister, which still felt precarious as the server reattached it and used it to light our steak on fire."
