Sure, likely a #Taco situation, but just in case it's not, will we see a revival of the old contraband trade? Adam Smith, 𝘞𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘩 𝘰𝘧 𝘕𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴, Bk I, ch xi, in his digressions on Gold & Silver, wrote at some length abt it to give us an idea 😉

In older smokers w/ initially similar cognitive trajectories, those who quit had more favourable trajectories than continuing smokers. As older adults are less likely than younger people to attempt smoking cessation, improvements in cognitive trajectories might provide additional motivation to quit:
Cognitive decline before and after mid-to-late-life smoking cessation: a longitudinal analysis of prospective cohort studies from 12 countries
In middle-aged and older smokers with initially similar cognitive trajectories, smokers who quit subsequently had more favourable trajectories than continuing smokers regardless of age at cessation. A...

Maybe ask @norgesbank.bsky.social to start using their account on here. Some of their researchers do already: @megapp.bsky.social @kasperroszbach.bsky.social @furlanetto.bsky.social @ragnarjuelsrud.bsky.social, for instance.

Note the third remark re the 09/2024 Draghi report:

Congratulations to Philippe Aghion on receiving the Nobel Prize in economics.

A proud moment for Europe and a strong reminder that innovation and openness are the foundations of our shared prosperity.

Philippe’s contributions helped shape Mario Draghi’s vision for European competitiveness.

Might be, tho, that the Committee was a bit too influenced by Silicon Valley jargon...

Whoops, that was quick. The scaffolding between the bridge's pylons didn't seem to be set up a month ago. A happy Sunday from here!

Re #JohnSearle: Read 𝘚𝘱𝘦𝘦𝘤𝘩 𝘈𝘤𝘵𝘴 (1969) & 𝘐𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺 (1983) maybe 30 years ago, then completely forgot about him & certainly missed his later turn to social #ontology, a completely fruitless endeavor. Now that he's died, Sept. 17, I read that he must have been sort of a dick anyway.

Actually learnt sth from this paper by @lennartack.bsky.social, and be it only that you can safely delete the adjective 'ontological' attached to your description without changing the meaning. Oh, & that there’s apparently 'left-libertarians' (316, 321)...—is this so, @stephaniekelton.bsky.social?

Lotta things you might not know!
I, for instance, didn't know that Kristofferson's “Freedom’s just another word for nothin’ left to lose” was inspired by the final scene of Fellini’s 𝘓𝘢 𝘚𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘥𝘢 after Zampanò had abandoned Gelsomina while she was sleeping... (via @anitaleirfall.bsky.social)

Perhaps among the least philosophically & economically informed papers I've read in many, many years! About what #money is, really is, really really is...
Completely redundant from first to last page; one pleonasm after another, as #Kant had warned us, 𝘊𝘗𝘙 B 626 ff.

Looks like whatever the #Fed says (higher #inflation with lower #employment, which is a rather unusual situation) or does (25 bps interest rate cut), stock punters are driving the markets from all-time high to all-time high: #SPX, #ES_F

The capital of Finland hasn't had a traffic death in a full year. Lower speed limits, plentiful speed cameras, 1,500+ km of bike lanes, infrastructure for pedestrians, and a new tram line.
When you prioritize people and not vehicles, you can save lives while protecting the environment.
Helsinki records zero traffic deaths for full year
Helsinki has completed 12 months without a single traffic fatality, a milestone credited to lower speed limits, safer infrastructure, and years of consistent planning, officials say.

That was close: "On the right, there was a surge in support for the populist Progress party – especially among young men – in what has been described by some as 'the Maga-fication' of Norwegian politics."

Yes, sure, but I view it rather from an overall ecological perspective & am not so fond of #animism, #panpsychism & all this other funny stuff, such as ontological #dispositionalism, that's resurging in our #Metaphysics departments lately. Good luck with the book, tho, & a happy weekend from here.

Just learnt from Kurt Flasch, 𝘋𝘢𝘴 𝘱𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘰𝘴𝘰𝘱𝘩𝘪𝘴𝘤𝘩𝘦 𝘋𝘦𝘯𝘬𝘦𝘯 𝘪𝘮 𝘔𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘦𝘳, 4th ed. 2020, 549 (magnificent book, btw, for those who read German), that we find the idea of animal ratiocination even in Buridan's (1301- ~1360) 𝘋𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘮𝘢-Commentary (RT via @anitaleirfall.bsky.social):
