I have a food pantry in my front yard. It is used heavily. We can't keep it full & could use some help covering the cost of shelf-stable supplies. No one is using this pantry unless they need the help. We supply beans, oatmeal, onions, etc. It's not gourmet food.

You can read the thread or just go read the essay. It's amazing (and not too long to interrupt your doomscrolling).

Dear Pete Hegseth, a Navy captain outranks an Army major, as the former is one step below Rear Admiral. Mark Kelly was 5 ranks from the top of the Navy, you were 7 ranks from the top of the Natl Guard.

Kudos to the folks who call their representatives with words of support instead of hate. @houlahan.house.gov posted audio of some of the calls she's received and it's heartwarming.

Congress requires the DOD to support the Scouts & the Secretary of Defense can only refuse if the support would be "detrimental to national security." Hegseth claims national security is threatened because the Scouts are no longer cultivating "masculine values."

I really don’t think we can overstate the harm that the tech ethos of move fast and break things (followed by the unsaid “and then just move on”) has done beyond tech. Government, ngos, universities, public schools that have invited the folks who think like this in keep ending up gutted
All DOGE accomplished was purging critical government staff, handing private data to outsiders, and sentencing thousands in developing countries to death by gutting USAID.

I don’t say this lightly: if there were any justice in this world, the people responsible for this devastation would be in jail

The American Revolution on PBS is amazing. It’s inspiring and enraging, messy, just like our fragile democracy. And, also, very timely as we face our current tyrant. It’s surprisingly emotional, and I’m struck by Thomas Paine’s words, and how they helped inspire the rebellion.
"These are the times that try men's souls...Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph."
