I’ll explain more tonight

I’ll be on Markus Lanz’s show tonight, talking about drones over Germany and in Ukraine. I’m usually asleep by the time his show airs, but maybe you don’t have small kids and are still awake at 11:15 pm!

Why is this happening so often now? Because 1) the geopolitical context has changed and 2) we are paying more attention

And more drones, this time over Geilenkirchen, the NATO base where the Awacs surveillance aircraft are stationed.
Detected by a detection system (good), no countermeasures employed (less good). As it is often the case, unclear whether there really was a drone, and which kind.

Für unsere Diskussion zum Nahen Osten haben wir uns gleich zwei Gäste eingeladen: @richardcschneider.bsky.social und Jan Busse. Die Folge ist jetzt online überall wo es Podcasts gibt.

I mean, I did read Embers because of your recommendation and it was great! Maybe I’ll give Krasznahorkai a try

It’s kind of funny how I actually don’t know you and seeing this announcement I immediately thought, “oh Marie is gonna be happy about this”. 😅

Just what is the point of any of this?
rikefranke.bsky.social
SWP auch nicht, FT auch nicht, es ist einfach alles ausgedacht 😶
rikefranke.bsky.social
Frank Sauer’s piece doesn’t exist either, and another SWP article neither. This seems written entirely by AI. We’re so cooked.
rikefranke.bsky.social
And here we go. I never wrote this article, and yet it is cited here.

And of course, it sounds so plausible, I seriously checked whether I had forgotten it, or the footnote was slightly wrong.

What happens next? Three options for Macron:
1) names another PM (preferably, for longevity reasons, not from his camp)
2) calls snap elections
3) resigns.

1st or 2nd more likely than 3rd, though resignation rumours continue to swirl.

“Ukraine has hit 16 out of Russia’s 38 refineries and that although repairs are possible, damage becomes lasting when refineries are subjected to repeated attacks. Some, he says, have been hit up to three times. “

“it is the unrelenting focus on refineries which is doing most to change the narrative about the war, even appearing to help change Donald Trump’s mind about Ukraine’s prospects.”
