As a former academic, I always love the idea that the Democrats and politics are being pushed toward "Marxism and the extreme left" by a group of workers who are so exploited and live so precariously they're taught how to get on food assistance and are terrified to give low grades.

That’s not a California problem. It’s an elitist problem.” While Podesta isn’t backing anyone yet in the 2028 presidential contest, he praised Newsom for his efforts to not only buck Trump but the “leftist extremists” in the Democratic party.

One of the prevailing worries for years was that with misinformation or deepfakes or AI videos people wouldn’t be able to tell what was real and what was altered.

But what got missed was the larger problem: that people wanted and needed to believe the lies being fed to them.

For a little under an hour — 41 minutes, according to a separate US official — Bradley and the rest of the US military command center discussed what to do as they watched the men struggle to overturn what was left of their boat, the sources said. Ultimately, Bradley told lawmakers, he ordered a second strike to destroy the remains of the vessel, killing the two survivors, on the grounds that it appeared that part of the vessel remained afloat because it still held cocaine, according to one of the sources. The survivors could hypothetically have floated to safety, been rescued, and carried on with trafficking the drugs, the logic went.

The pipe bomb suspect getting arrested by this dumbshit iteration of the FBI after 5 years just proves even more that the people in power over the last few years cared so little about getting to the bottom of the attempted coup of January 6th and just wanted to move on and hope things worked out.

One of the great untold and most massively important stories of this moment is that the Right Wing authoritarian movement is predicated on abused people fighting like hell to make sure that abuse and trauma continue forward and even accelerates.

My experience as well. So far we're 2-for-2 on kids having a largely bullying/abuse-free middle school experience. Not without bumpy spots of course, but light years away from what I endured.

My hot take: the anti-bullying stuff has really worked, which is why conservatives are pushing back at it.

for what it’s worth I got roped into helping out with my sixth grader’s extracurricular thing so I’ve had more recent contact with middle schoolers who aren’t mine than I usually do, and biased sample/biased reviewer/etc but my verdict is that the kids are all right

The normalization of this madness is so quick that we’re debating whether a second illegal strike was wrong after an initial illegal strike with no proof of any crime and we’ve already seen just random murders of fishermen normalized with the excuse they’re running drugs, which isn’t legal either.
