The Democratic Party is so tragically wed to maintaining their own stranglehold on power in the party they can't even admit one of their own should resign and be replaced, something that would hurt literally no one.

In my own research in learning about American authoritarianism, I found one article after another during the era of chattel slavery that attempted to legitimize it using almost exactly these words and phrases. The idea that a select few should be saved from "drudgery" through enslaving others.

We're seeing clearly the priorities. People with power are less concerned about our rights and authoritarianism than they are these hapless motherfuckers messing up their military, their economy, and encroaching on a court system designed to protect them and their property.

Authoritarianism progressively worsens, but there are hinge points, moments where the necessary reach of cruelty can be met with focused resistance.
We’re in one of those moments. We can band together, take collective action, and change the paradigm. The consequences of not doing it are immense.
