I know there is a lot going on but this went online last night and I am very proud it’s real. If you might be excited to find out how at every turn this nation could have prevented our current political moment by listening to Black people you can even preorder it before we get to designing the cover
A Second Sight

Being among the first interrogated and ultimately fired by DOGE, I certainly felt we were facing the business end of a right-wing conspiracy theory 🧵
DOGE was not a money-saving effort. It was an effort to chase down and prove right-wing conspiracy theories. They went after USAID to prove conspiracy theories about foreign aid. Then they went after SSA to, again, pursue conspiracy theories about Dems paying "illegals" to vote. 1/2
All DOGE accomplished was purging critical government staff, handing private data to outsiders, and sentencing thousands in developing countries to death by gutting USAID.

I don’t say this lightly: if there were any justice in this world, the people responsible for this devastation would be in jail

That’s the second empirical study I’ve seen this week that does an excellent job w/ right-wing radicalizing discourse. The other is this study on anti-immigration in France which is fantastic (and I’m not only saying that b/c they cited my and @dkreiss.bsky.social’s work on “defensive publics”)

Interesting: this study suggests that white support for anti-democratic policies targeting immigrants increases in places with increased Black pops but not increased Latine pops. Meaning at core what is activated in anti-democratic ideology is anti-Black racism even when the targets are not Black.

Don’t get me started on how they ruined google scholar
Google at its peak was basically the best information retrieval system in human history and they and every competitor decided going from there to “you didn’t want answers you wanted half-assed auto-complete 80%-wrong hallucinations” in a few years was the right idea

I really don’t think we can overstate the harm that the tech ethos of move fast and break things (followed by the unsaid “and then just move on”) has done beyond tech. Government, ngos, universities, public schools that have invited the folks who think like this in keep ending up gutted

Since February, according to my latest analysis, almost 600,000 Black women have been economically sidelined. The November 20, 2025, Jobs Report makes clear this isn’t a blip. It’s a structural crisis. That is not a recovery. It is a redistribution of opportunity.

Yes (I mean no but in the center, yes), and a lot of tech companies tested this and other forms of surveillance technology and “ai education” out on children in countries like Guatemala and India before they roped western kids into it too
Are we really at a stage in public education where we consider it OK to have literally Google-branded schoolchildren whose learner identities are tied to being "responsible AI" users of private for-profit technologies?

My friends and I have gone five straight years of never serving turkey at Canadian Thanksgiving, American Thanksgiving, or Christmas. We served char siu, prime rib, lobster, lamb, roast duck, and even a grocery store rotisserie chicken. Lots of options. It is fine to start your own traditions.
