Yes. I was also just thinking that October Thanksgiving indicates that I live in Canada.

Cape Breton is wonderful! I'm glad you were able to spend some time in my home province! Happy Canadian Thanksgiving!

I'm so grateful that we celebrate Thanksgiving in October.

I feel like this is also true for CBC.

Gary Lineker: "This is the mistake the BBC makes. The BBC tries to appease the people that hate the BBC, rather than worrying about the people that love the BBC."

Oh, I bet! Some heat would be great!

I bought two Costco pumpkin pies for the weekend, for four of us. We eat it any time of day. So so good.

I've just had my second helping of vegetables — and by that I mean, pumpkin pie.

Happy Thanksgiving, Canada!!!

If you toss your roasted carrots and parsnips in a mixture of butter, honey, and fresh thyme, it takes them to a whole new level. Divine!

Let me tell you about the time I was teaching in Nairobi and I asked a student to help me out by removing an enormous locust that was on my desk. His eyes grew wide and he said, THANK YOU! And then he picked that thing up and took a huge bite out of it. 😆

Also, to clarify, he was a kid from Texas.

Thanks for this reminder that I can make it from scratch. I usually cheat and use the boxed stuff, but the grocery store only had Stovetop and it said Made in USA, so I figured we'd just go without. I will plan to make it from scratch instead!

I had a really good run for a while. Based on my searches, the algorithm filled my feed with greenhouses, gardens, and goldendoodles ❤️

Yes, I have this back and forth with our older two who are away in university and have their own social media accounts. They tell me it's called pebbling.
Adam Grant post in which he says:

Sending memes, links, and videos to others isn't trivial. It signals that you're thinking of them and want to share your joy.

It's known as pebbling, based on penguins gifting pebbles to potential partners.

Pebbling is an act of care. Every pebble is a bid for connection.

I admit to labeling the jar of salt as NaCl.

I am the lucky one. I have a kid with whom I genuinely love to spend time. Good thing, because we spend a lot of time together. I know it won't last forever so I savour it all.

This happened to my monstera when it fell at summer camp (out on the deck for the season) and the base broke in two. So I tried repotting the two pieces separately. And now I have two HUGE plants because they loved the new larger pots. But also, my foyer now looks like a rainforest theme restaurant.

The best students I ever taught were elite athletes taking e-learning because they trained 6-8hrs each day. Those kids were organized, motivated, and, most importantly, they welcomed feedback — and even sought it. They knew feedback was valuable coaching and the key to success. They were winners.

You will celebrate what they tell you to celebrate.

What it's like being married to a biochemist:

Him: The garbage smells like toluene.

Me: What the h is toluene?

Him: Let me draw it for you.

Me: Um, nope. What the heck is toluene?

Him: A solvent used in glue.

Me: Oh, you mean SHOE GOO?!?! Ya, I fixed a boot. Also, just say glue like a human.

Goats, donkeys, alpacas — my trifecta of delight. Also, elephants, otters, and birds.

Each day, as I scroll social media, I bookmark videos to share with my son. Then, before bed, we squeeze into my chair & together we watch videos about lovely animals, goofy dogs, cool science. The more we watch, the more the algorithm sends them my way. We aren't doomscrolling — we're joyscrolling.

Yup. I don't stretch the analogy too far.

Everytime I see Stephen Miller, I think of this guy.
In Lord of the Rings, Grima Wormtongue manipulates the addle-minded Théoden.

From Wikipedia: Wormtongue serves as an archetypal sycophant, flatterer, liar, and manipulator.

Everytime they ask me if I'd like to round up to support Ronald McDonald House, I say, "Absolutely!" And then I start to cry. It's so embarrassing, but they were so kind to me. It's been 12 years and I'm not over it. RMHC really is a shelter in the storm for so many.
