I've basically not posted anything online for a little while now and don't really want to actively use twitter anymore so I guess my random technical rambling will continue here.
Dumbest thing about this breakout/amp setup, though, is the head switch signal it exposes is 1/4 field rate (due to VHS-C 4 head shenanigans). The RCA is there to bring that out if I really want it but I'll probably not bother since software side doesn't really make use of head switch atm anyway.
Those tapes do play fine in a normal VCR but seem to have been recorded with a slightly misaligned linear head so the video bleeds into the audio when I try make it sound clear. Obviously no hifi on these. Yes I'll run them through the normal one first in case the camera decides to die and eat tape.
It's a probably-overkill amplifier to plug in the bottom of a very specific model of Panasonic camcorder to let me hook it up to my cxadc setup. I have like 50 of my family's VHS-C tapes to transfer and they were all recorded on this very unit so I'm hoping it'll give good results.
parts and stuff and things
I wish I could step up and organize something here but I suck at organizing things so... idk, grab what you like and tell your friends I guess, or if someone good at organizing such things sees this feel free to do it better than I can
If anyone has a lot of money to spend on archival, there's like ¥190,000 (by my estimate) worth of purchasable downloads on the Kyoani download store that disappears on November 28, seemingly not offered anywhere else. Idk if anyone else has archived it yet. www.kyotoanimation.co.jp/information/...

Checked my twitter timeline today. Right off the bat a former mutual retweeting some ragebait about China/Japan culture "war" from someone who apparently also hates anyone with a Ukraine flag in their bio... I didn't really expect any different but man is it disappointing.
Can't get over the fact my old Xiaomi with a Pixel rom on it got free photos storage and then right when I went and bought an actual pixel they got rid of that... I really gotta move to Immich or something soon
when the exhaustion kicks in and I can finally sleep
They finally did it, you can finally run bad apple on a bootleg famicom cartridge.
US4687701 and EP0121379A2 are the relevant patents here btw
Wait I think it kinda did what I wanted actually! Still melts around 60°C but much better film-forming ability and less sticky when solidified. Now if only I had a compatible pigment...
Following a recipe for thermal transfer inks very roughly, I mixed paraffin wax with pine rosin, and just got a shittier kind of wax. Also tried cooking some ink hoping to get a dry pigment out of it and just made fancy blue tar. Amateur chemistry sure is fun... At least I didn't poison myself yet.
Quite exciting, but I can't help but worry a bit for the future of JE given the sudden shift from "we need to make sure people know Minecraft is closed-source by obfuscating it" to ditching that whole idea. I'm not saying "OMG IS JAVA EDITION OVER?" but... I just wanna know what prompted this change
Now that's evil what the hell
microwaving a mixture of aluminium oxide, chromium oxide and aluminium wool be like
Lmao... A friend was on my MC server when I turned off the router and I didn't realize, but they still couldn't connect after. I restarted stuff and made sure their DNS updated etc. Turns out the auth servers went down just before I touched the router. I accidentally did it at the BEST time I guess.
The new one is actually a Thingy 5, I don't know why they totally passed us by with the 4 but whatever. Anyway I dropped it just moments after taking it out of the box so call me Linus I guess
ISP sent us a Thingy 4 and will be deactivating Thingy 3 in a few days, I better learn real fast how to bypass any new port forwarding restrictions they added... It's not super hard on 3 but most of the ones I need weren't in the restricted list anyway... Fingers crossed the new one isn't much worse
Whoever is making ads that start with "don't close this tab" has no idea just how much that'll make the average online person want to close it even faster
Well that's not good.
