I've basically not posted anything online for a little while now and don't really want to actively use twitter anymore so I guess my random technical rambling will continue here.
A friend showed me a weird bug in old Minecraft versions where the player (and other entities) just gets stuck in certain areas. I did a whole load of code-digging and determined it's an issue with mob spawner rendering and chunk caching...

Woke up late right as a family member let in another family member who I really don't want to deal with pretty much ever but especially not right now, and as a result I'm not having lunch.

Got recommended "Bad Apple but it's Waterlogged Stairs" and apparently they thought it was a good idea to combine vertical stripes with horizontal random patterns that change every frame. Photosensitivity speedrun

Was in the middle of deleting many thousands of files from recycle bin, watching youtube in the meantime. Youtube froze but system was still responsive, then screen went black and keyboard unresponsive. No BSOD but event log says bugcheck EF (CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED). I bet it's my damn GPU again.

Seeing all this ICE shit makes me want to do a lot of things I probably can't talk about on the public internet... (Un)fortunately many of those things would require me being in the US which I'm not.

Was this box designed by AI or something? Wtf is that tab even meant to do.

In my childhood, the outside world smelled like cigarettes and gasoline. It sucked but I guess it was normal. Then it went away for a bit and things were Quite Nice Actually. Then it started to smell like weed and for some reason society immediately decided that's normal and everything sucks again.

I now have real-world confirmation that the EP4CE22 is functionally identical to the EP3C25. Parallelogram boots and appears to run correctly. One of the redefined "ground" pins is a very much required part of the SDRAM bus so if that was really ground it would fail to boot at all. This is... good.

"Phone calls suck, so we're fixing them with AI"
please do literally anything else. ffs.

Oh yeah my cool camcorder kinda fell apart... these posts aren't supposed to wobble freely like this. The threaded bits they screw onto are just press-fit in the carriage and apparently got loose, and fell out as soon as I tried to adjust anything.

I made an RF breakout/amplifier for Panasonic VHS-C camcorders so I can hook it straight to my cxadc/vhs-decode setup. Got the gain calculation wrong but I'm working on it. With camera power it's a bit limited but there's the option to use external power (e.g. a 9V battery) too.

when you open a book to look something up, that is curiosity, or wonder, or fear. when you draw something, it is excitement, or frustration, or struggle. when you write, what are you doing if not communicating how something should feel?

i just don't get it.
i don't think i ever will.

Printed managed to fling a blob of grease onto its head position encoder and confuse itself to the point where it would just spit out blank sheets and then say paper jam. This planned obsolescence stuff is getting out of hand.

Finally went and spent [probably too much] on one of these weird nonstandard SRAM cards so I can eventually build clones of them for no particular reason

Went to bed dizzy, thinking oh I'll just sleep it off. Woke up 7 hours later still dizzy. This isn't optimal...

Regularly seeing invisible likes on my posts... Privacy is cool and I wish that was an intentional thing but afaik bluesky doesn't have anything resembling private accounts/likes yet? What's going on??? I don't particularly mind, just curious (and very mildly spooked when they're the *only* likes)

I have an old waveshare kit with an EP4CE10 on it. I took a project for that board, converted it to EP3C10, pushed it over JTAG... it succeeded and works as expected. Some weirdness where quartus disabled one of the clock assignments but I reenabled it and... it's just fine with it.
Oh my god. It's the same chip. I fed a random EP4CE22 bitstream to my bitmap image converter I explicitly built for the EP3C25, it not only worked but it's like the exact same layout. Boundary scan files also look VERY similar just with a few pins redefined... enough to be technically incompatible.

Twitter algorithm somehow still thinks I want to see a few very specific categories of edgy stuff, when I have never positively interacted with it and in fact Very Much Don't Want To See It.... What kind of bullshit heuristic/correlation is it basing this on???

Motivation mysteriously vanished several hours ago and now I feel like I've achieved nothing all day even though I made that wild discovery earlier...

EP3C25's JTAG ID is 020F30DD. EP4CE22's JTAG ID is also 020F30DD. Something fishy is going on here.

Well I accidentally stumbled into this screen in Quartus II so I guess I know what the true orientation is now. Basing all further work (and rework) on this, which is basically just swapping the X and Y coords, relative to top left.
