“Concerns over an AI bubble bursting have grown lately, with analysts recently finding that it’s 17 times the size of the dotcom-era bubble and four times bigger than the 2008 financial crisis.”

Hang onto your butts. This “correction” is gonna hurt.

Oh yes! These are all ‘desk drawers’! Downloads folders is another one (tackled the work one recently, but home computer still untouched 😅 for now)

What’s in the drawers of your desk?

I have a bureau that I bought when we lived in Cambridge and I was doing my PhD, not-quite 2 decades ago.

Today I sat at it and realised it was still full of old UK stuff

Here is a gentle nudge, if the universe is aligned for you too, to open that bottom drawer, sort through the papers and send that letter.

Jean was a Henry James scholar and ‘Only Connect’ remains a powerful invocation, to our past selves, to our envinronment, and to other people. ✨📚

So of course I wrote her a card with an update and hurried to get to the post office before it closed.

I haven’t sent an overseas letter in years, and the trainee serving me had run out of international $4.50 stamps—so it’s clearly not just me… BUT

In my letter, I had talked about working on my first book chapter.
About how I was nervous about submitting my PhD. I didn’t know what was coming next.

Today, I have lost count of the books and chapters and articles I have published. I teach others to finish their PhD.

A definition of ‘fugue’ on the back of an envelope.
And a letter to my old undergraduate advisor dated September 2008.

I, however,
Have such meagre power,

Clutching at a
Moment,

While you control
An hour.

But your hour is
A stone.

My moment is
A flower.

-Langston Hughes, "Poet to Bigot"
#everynightapoem As ever.
I have done so little
For you.
And you have do little
For me.
That we have good reason
Never to agree.

I, however,
Have such meagre power,
Clutching at a
Moment,
While you control
An hour.

Now I know what you’re thinking: Did they make a video abstract for this important study? Reader,

Hope - not as something you have, but something you practice into being.

It is what the philosopher Jonathan Lear has called “radical hope” - “directed towards a future goodness that transcends the current ability to understand what it is.”

You are so welcome. Thank you for such a thoughtful and honest article!

I recognised a lot of threads! And I've thought about your running experiences a lot as I've started running myself! 👟💕

I find the way ID cards have been used in the UK is also always so weird (so I guess emblematic of this point). In Europe it’s quite nice to have physical identity documentation seperate from ability to drive or travel, and allows you to travel if you like. But UK options are always so surveillancy
