Totally. I think what I'm wondering aloud here is whether Labour actually stand to gain from it too now, in a fashion, in this slightly unprecedented moment we find ourselves in.

It'll be good this

I suppose it's good that Sultana & Corbyn have both realised the symbolic importance of a united display, if late and somewhat superficial, and I hope YP can move beyond this parasocial psychodrama. Polanski did very well on QT. These are my thoughts on the latest scenes in British left electoralism

(He is right of course, on the fundamental question of whether they should own a basket or maintain her routine of - and it's unnerving to be actually writing this out - returning dirty clothes directly to the wardrobe. But every 10 days and 4 gym trips is certainly not the way man!)
kieranhurley.bsky.social
I particularly like how they are both just differently disgusting, each making an appeal to the other's personal hygiene.
kieranhurley.bsky.social
Aye this one is so banal and obvious that it (almost) swings round to being an object of fascination for that reason alone.
kieranhurley.bsky.social
"I like to put dirty clothes back in the wardrobe if they can't be washed immediately whereas he prefers to wait 10 days before washing anything." Not even finished the first half but these people are both beyond salvation. Nothing for it. Back on the apps in the unlikely pursuit of like minds it is

Funny to look at e.g. Polanski or Mamdani and think "Labour should be doing this." Sure they could get an assured younger guy in an open collar shirt to walk around talking to a phone camera, but what is he going to be saying? "Everything is fine right now, which is why we shouldn't change it."

I do wonder if Labour might look at the sorts of people dominating the discourse and dominating the content wars and maybe, just maybe, rethink the sorts of grey figures they routinely put up for interviews, instructed at that to be as cautious as possible. Things have changed. Their comms hasn’t.
kieranhurley.bsky.social
Yeah alright. Sold. Get it done.

There is no actual need to hold a referendum on PR. The electoral system can be changed by simple act of parliament
kieranhurley.bsky.social
Oh no I'm trying to play out how a power-sharing agreement could be brokered in a coalition that has to include Starmer's Labour and a Corbyn-led new party. Wouldn't happen and they'd let Reform & Tories form a minority coalition instead. Ah. Well! Nevertheless!
kieranhurley.bsky.social
In any case Starmer heading up a coalition in which Labour the party to the right of the arrangement, and others have ministerial positions is obviously better than what we have and what is otherwise coming.
kieranhurley.bsky.social
Obviously I also very much don't want Starmer to be PM so there's that lol. But just from a self-interested pov for Labour, what do they want? To be obliterated by Reform or to stay in power as part of a coalition that pulls them left? Not convinced they do want the latter tbh but they should!
kieranhurley.bsky.social
Obviously it also wasn't in their manifesto. Bad, doesn't seem like an untraversable problem these days. Digital ID wasn't in their manifesto. Next.
kieranhurley.bsky.social
Obviously they won't do this but let's think it out, for the laugh. The timescale is a little bit mad, but is it impossible? 4 years to GE, so ref in 2027 giving 2 years to campaign then 2 years to implement reforms on winning? I don't really know if that's enough but it could be.
kieranhurley.bsky.social
What if Labour gave up trying to appease Reform and pivoted hard to making the case for voting reform, announcing a referendum on PR, and putting their energy into making the case for it, starting now, with a view to leading a centre-left coalition after the next election?
alexkanefsky.bsky.social
I don’t know how seriously to take polling at the moment but if you aggregate all of the polls this year you still have Reform steaming ahead to win. So the only future that doesn’t see the cruel chaos of a Farage govt must be coalitions under PR
zackpolanski.bsky.social
Latest poll puts Greens just two points behind Labour. When I said we weren't here to be disappointed in Labour but to replace them, I meant it.

Join us and let's make hope normal again.

Seen them at the O2 Academy years ago and they opened with it, I just about shat myself
kieranhurley.bsky.social
Best opening run of 3 tracks across any of their albums and it's not even close imo
kieranhurley.bsky.social
oh I thought these were replies to the Nostalgic Pushead comment. Aye the album did have a poor rep! Partially but certainly very from entirely justified imo. A generous sprinkling of genuine all-timers in there
kieranhurley.bsky.social
that guitar lick under the "radio nostalgia is radio death" bit 👌

I mean it's definitely cringe eh but you've got find a way to work around that with Manics haven't you lol
kieranhurley.bsky.social
Thanks to this post I'm now listening to this album too. Let's all do it and have a really nice time 👍
