Now I’m probably going to get talked to about my post it because me laughing about this will hurt a manager’s fee fees and « bring down unit morale ». I argue that laughing together at managers’ foibles at 3am actually *builds* unit morale.

For ED nurses week management decided to to make GIANT thank you posters with our full names(!) and photos and post them in the department. Luckily any concern I had about my full name being visible to all was assuaged by the fact that they combined my first name with another RN’s last name and pic.

Work texts for tomorrow AM coverage went out rather early tonight because I’m pretty sure all the day shifters who were at the game or watching on TV realized around the 11th inning that there was no way they were going to be up and functioning by 7am.

Honestly I feel like regular hospitals could raise their press-ganey scores significantly by adopting just a few things from Peds. #1. Incorporate nice colors and a bit of whimsy into the decor. #2. Play doh, crayons and bubbles for everyone and everyone gets to pick a sticker after getting x-rayed.

Lots people are all «Why do you offer it to older kids? They should be able to "handle it."» They are still kids at a children’s hospital! They’ll have plenty of years to "suck it up" later. 190lb 17yo with a football injury wants a j-tip? I’m all for it! Want some play doh and bubbles too my dude?

I take personal pride in having inserted an IV, drawn blood, flushed and started taping all while the patient on the other side of the blanket fort I make goes « Have you used the needle yet? When are you putting the needle in? »

Went to give a kid in a lot of pain some IN fent. Kid was understandably not excited about medicine being shot up his nose, started screaming and fighting. Then I administered it and he was like «Oh.» followed by a 20 second pause then «Am I dead?» The parents and I couldn’t hold in our laughter.

So I got my TB test today (Tuesday) at 1630. The medical assistant said the read is 48-72 hours after so come back after 1630 Wednesday or before 1630 Thursday. I asked not Friday? And she said not that would be too late. Isn’t what she told me 24-48 hours? She was so adamant…

Endive and beet salad, endive braised in butter with lemon, endive with chèvre chaud. Just straight endive. Endives are ridiculously expensive in most US supermarkets but Trader Joe’s has a 3 pack for not that much and it is a staple in my kitchen.
