For all the gripes I have with XVI, one thing I love without question is Clive and Jill's relationship as characters and how the story told with them progresses.

I'd honestly argue it's one of the best romances in Final Fantasy.

One of the issues lies in them not fully committing to the DMC influence. Like just be straightforward instead of trying to trick people into thinking that Clive has a build outside of his big attacks.

yeah you can't really argue that Kairi is unimportant to KH and could be removed, though you can also say the same said of Zelda from The Legend of Zelda, and most Zelda games don't have a particularly great or prominent Zelda

You can basically look at any shonen and see how people treat the noncombative female character as being of lesser value because she doesn't fight with no consideration taken as to what the removal of that character would do to your narrative's theme's, spirit or values.
