When Charles Schulz died, every currently syndicated cartoonist set aside a day to pay tribute to him and his life's work. The Garfield one was my favorite.

No one will do that for Adams.

I feel like this used to be a lot more common, like we were getting stuff like "Darth Vader wants to find the Soul Edge because the Emperor is intrigued by its power"
Sidenote but I think this is an underrated aspect of why Mortal Kombat had so much staying power: it's not just the campaign mode, but every single character has a unique and usually non-canon ending that goes bananas

Like Triborg in MKX killing all the Special Forces and making a cyborg ninja army

labyrinth mode would go great in just about any fighting game

fighting games should probably immerse themselves in the Three Choices genre

people will be like "single player content in fighting games sucks" when it's actually just that nobody has the guts to copy Dissidia Final Fantasy for the Nintendo PSP
It sucks bc a lot of games now will just give you a "congratulations!" screen without anything else going on, or cool artwork if we're feeling generous

Granblue Rising does this too, but that game does Mortal Kombat-esque "all characters have unique dialogue with each other" so I forgive it a bit

yeah I played the fuck out of soul calibur 2's weapon master mode

I feel like a problem is that a lot of fighting game devs are extreme tunnel vision and can only imagine people wanting to fight CPUs of increasing difficulty
People rag on mortal kombat a lot but Netherrealm understand that people want a variety of single player content.
We used to have wild shit like soul calibur 3 chronicles of the sword mode

the fact that this is a kinda common thing at all is so weird to me because usually all those are are a few images (or even just posed 3D models) and some dialog, that's not exactly breaking the bank
It doesn't even have arcade mode endings man

Minnesota still needs your attention
This is the aftermath of an ICE kidnapping a few blocks from my home in St. Paul—an hour ago. A quiet street full of broken glass and at least three wrecked cars. The target of the kidnapping was taken away by ambulance. He was on a stretcher and covered by a sheet, though a cop said he was alive.

honestly in the age of streaming a whole other benefit of single player content is having something a person can play that isn't just them being blown up online and going "alright let's play something else"
This is why I still defend World Tour was a massive part of SF6 picking up steam, so many streamers who otherwise don't touch fighting games checking out the game just for it

honestly I feel like a really obvious fact is that if you're making a fighting game, or any genre really, that's about an established IP, people are gonna want a story mode or at least character interactions, because they're coming from a place of caring about that IP

I don't really think this would've "saved" 2xko or anything but this is some interesting if limited info

Like A Dragon is a series where you will randomly run into an FF15 style cup noodles ad except they play this song and it's flat out numerically superior to your other unsponsored options in that game
