Per CDC source: At internal leadership meeting this afternoon, it was shared that 1,257 people were RIF'd at CDC. Number may not be final. Apparently, chief of staff was unaware that RIFs were going to occur so not clear who is making decisions. (Short 🧵)

This doesn't just affect rural areas. All those rural people who survive the 2+ hour transport are going to drown the capacity of remaining hospitals. There will be pain, injury, and death for everyone to share.

The Democrats aren’t being clear enough about this but we can be: this shutdown is about saving lives.

If we don’t reverse the Medicaid cuts (and the ACA subsidies on insurance bought through the exchanges) that Republicans made this year, people will die.

So I could see someone comparing the question “what are Lay’s potato chips made of?” overthinking it if they approached it as a riddle instead of approaching it as a legit question.

And the phrase “snap, crackle, and pop” are 3 (male) characters from advertisements for Rice Krispies cereal. So we’ve all been programmed to automatically rattle off “pop” if we get asked to end a series starting “snap crackle and…” even though David’s got to be in the list of David’s dad’s sons.

In the 2nd you’ll sometimes hear people say that the horse can’t be white because “in the field of horses there’s no such thing as white.” That’s not quite true, there are white horses. But George Washington’s horse in paintings, which usually looks white, was actually grey.

In the first the gut instinct is to say lead, even though “a pound”already tells you that they’re both the same weight. Our brains try to skip a step and fails.

So there are a whole bunch of “logic riddles” that we learned as kids, where the question looked like it had an obvious answer.

Which weighs more, a pound of feather or a pound of lead?

What color was Washington’s white horse?

David’s father has 3 sons: snap, crackle, and…?

If it turned into a bunch of people going “oh no no they caught me with the George Washington’s White Horse question; I’m not falling for that again” then the marketing data is garbage…

I hope that’s it, but even that sounds like the researchers would come back with “the customers don’t trust you” not “the customers don’t know what POTATO chips are made of”
