Pathologically incapable of throwing handwritten cards/letters away, which means today I found the last card Granny wrote me. She wasn’t as sharp as she’d been so wrote “I’ll love you forever” in it not once but twice 😭

Not a horror fan as a rule but watched Under The Shadow (2016, British-Iranian director, set during the Iran-Iraq war) last night and loved it.

This from a man whose favourite criticism of me is that I sometimes say things that are classist!!!

J went up to the new house today and immediately endeared himself to our neighbour by asking if he was in charge of maintenance on the estate, just because the man was putting some tools in a van.

Anyway turns out I can still make dinner with one hand tied behind my back (almost). The cocktail helped, I’ll not lie
Table with dinner served: salmon with creamy cannellini beans and spinach, a plate of crusty bread, a small plate of lemon chunks and a negroni

It does rather, I am a clumsy fool

Apparently, it's Mental Health Awareness Day, but I can't help but feel 15 solid years of scrounger rhetoric has made a mockery of it.

If you don't accept that mental illness is real and often profoundly disabling, then you're stoking continued ignorance. No accommodation can be made with that.

Oh it’s fine as long as I don’t take the plasters off. Making do with chocolate digestives for now, stiff drink later

Right into the nail as well, so that'll be buggered too.

Going to have to channel my grandmother, who once cut both thumbs on some farming machinery and was advised by the A&E doctor, once he'd stitched up her poor thumbs, to "go home and have a large brandy"

If you're of a sensitive disposition, scroll on by, but this afternoon I sliced into my thumb with a breadknife and it doesn't half smart

Never seen a sane take from that Heidi woman

I could probably live without poems that aren't poems but little arrangements of self-interested observations. Honestly, read Auden or Seamus Heaney, then consider whether you need to post yours. If poetry was taught better, maybe we'd understand what is and isn't a good poem. Yes I am gate-keeping.

Maybe people will finally stop treating song lyrics as unembellished personal statements by the artist! lol who am I kidding, critical media consumption is dead

"The reasonable listener of 'Not Like Us' would conclude that Lamar is rapping hyperbolic vituperations."
“Not Like Us” is replete with profanity, trash-talking, threats of violence, and figurative and hyperbolic language, all of which are indicia of opinion. A reasonable listener would not equate a song that contains lyrics such as, “Ain’t no law, boy, you ball boy, fetch Gatorade or somethin’, since 2009 I had this b**** jumpin’,” with accurate factual reporting. Accordingly, the reasonable listener of “Not Like Us” would conclude that Lamar is rapping hyperbolic vituperations.

How do I politely say to a client: 'I'm advising against the use of the phrase "eight-limbed octopus" because octopuses by definition do traditionally have eight limbs?'

I ❤️ being a copywriter!!!!

Sick to the back teeth of rich tossers like Boris Johnson and Jim Ratcliffe whining about net zero targets in the warmest October I can remember. Hate it. HATE IT.

Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.

Three days of abuse because I was very rude (but not incorrect) about Novak Djokovic. One person left a comment on the blog I hadn’t updated in more than a year and told me I merely a “wannabe” copywriter 🥰

Has anything great happened in your life because of social media?

Truly one of the worst things I’ve ever heard him say

Anyway, last night, J said "give it a year and it'll be Jenrick and Streeting sniping at each other over the despatch boxes", which rather put me off my dinner

Quite admire people managing to say eloquent things about Kemi's latest "students shouldn't study things like English" bullshit. All I've got is "oh, do fuck OFF, Badenoch"

How is this repeatedly made into a policy issue - by *all* parties - when the blunt fact of the matter is that grown adults who are obliged to pay for their own education, and relentlessly pursued to repay their loans, should be able to study whatever the fuck they want.
