Even on the UN definition, intention matters so the case becomes untenable in my opinion, but that isn’t important. Most of us don’t study the United Nations manual on crimes against humanity. We understand that genocide entails rounding up families, herding them into cattle carts before cramming them into a fake shower. We imagine mothers hugging their children as they choke to death on poison gas. On an industrial scale.

One word. Two very different meanings.

The Auckland Central MP’s choice of language warrants comment. Because she does understand the distinction. She is aware that, whatever Israel’s intent, there can be no comparison to what happened in Rwanda, Cambodia or Treblinka.

The Olive green areas are councils where citizens voted down Māori wards (the little blue blob in the middle is Kirikiriroa, which voted by a whisker to retain theirs).
Coincidentally those Olive green areas also pretty accurately represent land confiscated by the crown after the Waikato wars.

It is food for thought certainly.
I really think we need a legal framework that prohibits any government of the day from allowing a Bill to go ahead when there is this level of clear opposition to it. To me it is the epitome of authoritarianism to ignore democratic opinion to this degree.

VOTE 🗳️ I don’t see any other legal way to stop any of this unfortunately. Calm conversations with family or friends who blindly vote for the “suits” believing they are better, smarter, more qualified etc, is another way to keep shifting the dial on these pricks. 🤷‍♀️
