My issue with Ultimania is unless you were entrenched in a Discord most of all that was lost on other fans. I have friends who read fic who never engage with fandom itself, they played the game, they read smut on AO3.

But I had someone once leave a comment over 15 years later on a Castlevania fic I wrote in the summer of 2005 getting sanctimonious b/c I made two characters the same age when at the time we had only the main character’s age and they were best friends so we all just assumed they were the same age.

I remember someone telling me in Discord the day after Ultimania dropped that my fics were canon divergent now but it was okay because those are ‘valued too by some of the fans’.

I swear if something that drops over two and a half years after the game, has fans who do this, I will block them.
