It was from a trade stall & had probably been handled a lot over the past few days
The fibres were very twisted & finding the ends proved tricky but my dyspraxia didn’t help
The foot idea sounds intriguing! I usually use two old ceramic marmalade pots I have for keeping random sewing tools in
