We’re so excited!
LYS welcomes Xandy Peters to the Lancaster Winter Knitter’s Retreat January 9 - 11, 2026! Local fiber artist Sarah Ulrich *and others* round out a cozy weekend of knitting and community. Join us at the William H Montgomery mansion in Lancaster, PA. Details on our website!

So much garter stitch this year!
Here’s a WIP I just picked up after a long break. This is Melissa Leapman’s ‘Honky Tonk’ shawl- featuring garter stripes and garter mosaic stitch borders. Nearly finished Chart B! #ShowUsYourKnits #GarterStitch
Close up of my left hand holding a knitting project on a pointy metal needle. The fabric is alternating stripes of grey and red with a geometric mosaic motif along one edge. It is vastly satisfying and simple to knit. There is a brick fireplace in the background with colorful twinkly lights on it and a shelf with pictures and a plant on it, too.

I learned this *essential* knitting trick from @xandypeters.bsky.social
A close up of a pair of chopsticks holding a single piece of popcorn – there is a white bowl with popcorn in it in the foreground, and the background is a striped knitting project on the needles. you can just see the corner of a television set – we were watching ‘Chopped.’

Places you can knit—first free concert of the summer at Long’s Park in Lancaster! The band was ‘In the Pocket,’ and it was chilly but just right for knitting! #LancasterYarnShop #PlacesYouCanKnit #LiveMusic
A hand holding a knitting project in the foreground with a distant triangle shaped pavilion on the horizon and a crowd of chairs and people arriving to an afternoon outdoor concert in between. Four smiling people holding knitting projects (obscured) and smiling while at an outdoor concert—seated in camp chairs on a green lawn and with dozens of people in the background.

This week’s prompt is WIPs: my most active current project: another ‘Musselburgh Hat’ designed by Ysolda Teague. This one is stripy and made with Lanas Light-it’s a good one! This is my ‘interstitial project;’ I’m fatigued, so I need easy knitting. #ShowUsYourKnits #Knitting #LancasterYarnShop
A close up of several fingers of my left hand holding a knitting needle and with orange yarn wrapped around my index finger. I’m making a striped hat that is comprised of dark gray, light gray, mustard yellow and orange wool. The knitting needles are wooden and there is a yellow bulb stitch marker between two stitches on the previous row. You can see the inside and the outside of the hat because the pattern is clever.

This reminds me of my favourite ever Irish insult (normally directed at humans but definitely applies here too) that goes "he looks like his mammy knitted him"

I absolutely refuse to believe that the pheasant who regularly visits my mum and dad’s garden is real and has not in fact been crocheted.

A collage poster for LYS Day which is on Saturday, April 26. There is a logo for the event which is a drawing of a ball of yarn with a banner across it and the words LOCAL YARN STORE DAY and a photo of a rainbow ordered display of hand dyed yarn from our shop. Happy LYS Day! Support your LYS! 🧶

Here in Pennsylvania we still occasionally wear ‘socks’ made of colorful seeds and berries—but we’re very shy about it! #knitseeds #knitberries
