2. It's rare for any creative, including writers, to be able to live solely off their creative income. Moreover, there is no correlation between the creative value of art and the income status of its creator. It's okay to have another gig to eat and pay bills and survive our capitalist hellscape.

I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

When people are mean to you, remember the universal truth that it comes from their own fears, not from a deficiency in you. So don’t react. Chin up. Wait for the reality of their own internal conflict to take care of it.

Watching videos of cooking experts offering up "easy pastry recipes" give me a sense of how less experienced knitters probably feel about sock knitting. Looks amazing, seems mysterious, tried it once, failed utterly, am now intimidated. 😃

Our usual source for trifle sponges/Swiss rolls closed this year, so we needed to find another one. A new bakery recently opened up nearby, offering them in some great flavours - including mango and coffee. So I did the responsible thing, bought one and made a test trifle. #TrifleForBreakfast

I love this about Toronto. Recently explained to a New Yorker that here we will put butter chicken in/on anything. Fries. Poutine. Pizza. Salad. Burritos. Lasagna. It's all fair game and it's all delicious.
I love that Indian Pizza is becoming a thing Toronto is known for

Thread. I promise it's not just about my book, but offers some fascinating and really helpful insights into trans bodies and size and fit.
Socks&sizes
Out of this (embarrassing for me 🙈) conversation with @kateatherley.bsky.social , I spontaneously bought Kate's book Custom Socks. And, you guys, just reading the first chapter on foot sizes nearly made me cry w relief
She did a survey on ~500 people's feet. While they were

I really don't think "change needle to change sizes" is best practice for grading. You're asking the knitter to potentially compromise the quality of the fabric by knitting too loose and/or create issues with it by working it too tight. It is 100% possible to grade colourwork mitts & socks. 🧶

Yeah, ok, I am grumpy and demanding but I really try not to make it personal or directed at a specific individual.

I know it's absolutely the worst thing to do, to offer unsolicited advice. I hate when people do it to me, I really try to avoid doing it to others. But ooooh boy when you see someone doing something that is making both their lives and their knitting worse, it can be really hard to stay quiet.

If you use GMail, AI (Gemini) was turned on yesterday by default and now scans all of your content for machine learning. To turn off, go to Settings>General and scroll down. Uncheck the box for "Smart features."

There's other "Smart" add-ons as well, but that's the one that reads your content.

Today in maturity: I have had this bra for 10+ years. It was a bad fit, straight up. Band too small, straps too long. As my body changed with age the issue got worse. But it was $$$, so I held onto it and tried to wear it from time to time. I finally gave myself permission to get rid of it.

And craft books. Mine are in there.
Remember: they used thousands of academic books too! If you’re a scholar, check for your books too. This isn’t just novelists and pop writers, it’s academic books too!
AI advocates have warned that if every author in the class action filed a claim, it would "financially ruin" the entire industry.

Lots of excellent idea but a bit disappointed that no one has figured out what Beaker might sing.
Inspired by the notion that First We Take Manhattan was written as the title song for MUPPETS TAKE MANHATTAN, @normwilner.bsky.social and I have been noodling on the idea of the Muppets doing an album of Leonard Cohen covers. It's got to be Gonzo for Hallelujah.
