Sorry this took so long, but I finally got the doc I prepared for my friend up on Google Docs. It is a deliberately short Long Covid On Ramp for folks just discovering they are sick and wondering what to do next. Thanks to all who contributed! docs.google.com/document/d/1...

No-Go area at the Portland ICE facility. Take heed!
caitlinmoriah.bsky.social
officers just came out and seized a handful of people. some of them it was for standing on this piece of sidewalk that is not sidewalk, it’s part of the property so they’ll nab you if you stand there
Photo of a facility from google maps, showing a strip of concrete next to the gate that looks like sidewalk but it runs along side a planter perpendicular to the sidewalk

Spray one frog's ventilation valve with pepper spray and the next night two will return!

Sure, or maybe my oil was darker, or I processed it less or more, or the leaves sat in the bowl longer. Still tastes good!
alyssaharad.bsky.social
Oh just very basic since it’s going in the freezer. Basil, pine nuts, garlic, lemon juice, salt, lots of olive oil.

How it started/how it’s going.
A large glass Pyrex bowl full of pesto made from the pile of basil in the quoted post.

Mine has been doing OK dipping down into the upper forties, but we’re about to have a few days of rain and all day temps between 40-50ish so harvest time it is.

It smells incredible. I left enough behind that I could try covering it to overwinter.

Listen, we know we're not LA. 😂

No worries if we disable more than half the work force! We didn't really like it when they could think for themselves anyway!

I do have some questions about the convenient overlap between this push and the cognitive hit many people are taking from Covid and/or the chronic stress of living in the moment.
faineg.bsky.social
You know how there’s been this big push towards encouraging older people to do puzzles, cognitive games, and to learn new things to keep them from succumbing to dementia?

Wonder where that’s gonna go with the rise of “outsource your cognitive functions to AI, it’ll be convenient” culture
steveisdamages.bsky.social
Cognition is like strength. Use is required to not just gain, but maintain. The more thinking and cognitive work we offload, the duller we become as a result.

It's like deciding you'll use a mobility scooter without need and then figuring out a year later that you can no longer walk.

Emily Wilder was one of many journalists kidnapped by Israel in a second flotilla attempting to break the genocidal state's siege on Palestine.

We must DEMAND Israel & the U.S. release her and the the 144 others (+remaining members of the sumud flotilla) who were abducted in international waters

My friend and Jewish American reporter Emily Wilder was detained by the Israeli military last night while sailing with the Gaza flotilla reporting for @jewishcurrents.bsky.social. Please help our friend get home safely and call her US reps. bit.ly/ReleaseEm

Oh yeah, totally. I have a doctorate that I do not use or even talk about very much.

Oh that’s just straight up antisemitism.

I keep imagining small, badly lit rooms full of earnest but slightly despairing people starting something new. Mushrooms popping up in the undergrowth.

I think we’re going to have to grow our own places and platforms from the ground up y’all. It makes me exhausted just thinking about it but young people should be in charge of them anyway.

There is such a paucity of imagination in the chattering class—journalists, other politicians, etc. No curiosity, no willingness to consider the idea that the system we live in isn't the one we HAVE to live in. Indeed, seems like the opposite is true: an aversion to anything besides the status quo

I so appreciate the rage here and would only add that they also destroyed their reputation with much of the generation (mine, Gen X) that grew up dreaming of working for them.
volts.wtf
The young progs yelled at you online, and, well, I guess you showed them! You helped render their culture an ugly, violent, stupid, contemptible wreck that will likely take decades to return to any form worthy of pride.

You showed those fucking kids! That will teach them to talk back.
