Sorry this took so long, but I finally got the doc I prepared for my friend up on Google Docs. It is a deliberately short Long Covid On Ramp for folks just discovering they are sick and wondering what to do next. Thanks to all who contributed! docs.google.com/document/d/1...
Saw a crowd work short from a performer where she picked on a “Jason Mamoa look alike” who was indeed hot and adorable and she asked what he did for work and he said “I teach companies to use Chat-GPT” and then the entire audience groaned in disappointment and I thought my god maybe there is hope.

Do you have a holiday sweater party coming up? These take a little longer to ship because knit on demand is apparently a thing.

But hey, the first punch card programming was for a loom in the early 1800s. So, full circle.

We've sold dozens of copies of certain small-press books since once we started in 2019 because every time we order 2 to 10, they always sell ... eventually. There's something to be said for playing the long game.

As a former bookseller and indie bookstore manager, this is absolutely the truth. Tell people what's cool! Tell the stranger browsing the shelves next to you! Talk it up to the person ringing you up! We want to know what people actually like, not what publishers tell us to buy.

I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

The fight against authoritarianism has many fronts. At Unbreaking, we choose to work against information overload and for collective understanding. On our Immigration timeline, we track major and representative events from across the US—now filterable by legal case:

one night you sing your cat a little song when saying goodnight and then suddenly your cat has a bedtime routine that you've followed nightly for a year+ that starts with giving her a handful of greenies cat treats and ends with the singing of two songs (one from my childhood).
