I really loved The Man Who Mistook His Wife For A Hat when I read it as a young person, but it did always seem a bit phony to me. I put it down to Sacks's personal biases and his patients saying what he wanted to hear, though. Wild that he just made it up, but I don't really think I'm surprised.

I think I could write a pretty good How To Write book actually. The children yearn for a guide to classical rhetorical techniques and the technical art of fiction.

Did other people not do style exercises when they were in school? A pretty big part of my writing education was style exercises, along with study of the schemes and tropes of classical rhetoric.

There was an old couple behind us at Little Miss Sunshine and they absolutely lost their shit laughing every single time they had to push the car. I don't know why that's stuck with me for 20 years but it has.
Raising the always fun question: What are your most memorable theater-going experiences?

Mine also include The Matrix, Blair Witch, and being way too stoned in Belgium when Fellowship of the Ring was sold out so we sat in the back row for Mulholland Drive instead.
It was hands-down one of the most memorable theater-going experiences I can remember, a collective 30-minute butt-clench/armrest-grab for the final climb. And we knew he lived! Wild.

it is true, Violet is the Mozart of Romantasy (or at the very least the Liszt) and if you care about beauty or skill at all you should pre-order her virtuosic, breathless, gorgeous, capricious-and-yet-unexpectedly-coherent-and-moving fantasia PLASTIC, PRISM, VOID today

Lowkey I have a handful of Salieris but instead of thinking I am vulgar, dissolute boor they think I am a corny basic bitch

This is grotesque in principle, but in practice all the "we fed dead person's writing/personality to the AI" type things produce the most archetypal, generic, central casting versions of the deceased. Like a homeopathic droplet of your grandma mixed into the vast cultural stew of "grandma."

It's so bananas to see someone take a normal thing (personally preferring sex with people you have feelings for) and turn it into a Sephiroth speech.
When they say they're massive fucking losers, believe them.

I saw someone use "candle warmer" as the punchline in a joke about corny gifts only a middle-aged HR lady would want on the same day that I received in the mail a birthday gift I have been hint-dropping about for months, a candle warmer. Am I...old?

The fact that the galley of my book is not the finished version feels like a test sent by the universe to see if I have truly conquered my toxic perfectionist tendencies.

It'd be fun to have a DnD character who was like a red skeleton (maybe he's stained with blood or something) named Red Skeleton who's like a bard who does characters and little skits.

Important note for people reading my book: I speak with just a Mary–merry merger instead of a Mary–marry–merry merger, so if you pronounce marry as merry when reading it then you will ruin the book and bring shame upon yourself.

Listen, it was my HONOR to blurb this book. It was a privilege to get lost in its pages.

You are not ready! Even after you've read the whole thing twice, you will still not be ready. It's a heck of a ride and I'm so happy for everyone who gets to go on it next year.
