Finished with plenty of time before The Big Day. My own top-down sock recipe with very deep stash. Might be Canon Hand Dyes? Contrast colour heel so as not to interrupt the perfect stripes. 🧶

When a friend offers a "few" leftover hot peppers when they have finished their preserving for the year... And it turns out to be a kilo. 71 perfect cherry bomb peppers.

Taking photos for a tutorial & this image is absolutely perfect. Except, of course, for the dog hair right in the middle. Do you think people will be able to spot it? 🧶

It's someone's birthday today. This is the traditional baked-the-day-before birthdays-should-feature-cake-for-breakfast cake. A Russian sour cream coffee cake, with chocolate chips instead of nuts.

Look at this majestic thing.

I couldn't not buy this, for the princely sum of $1, at the Yarns Untangled yard sale. I don't know that I will ever knit anything from it but I just like knowing it's on my shelf.

Why yes I *am* putting together a new tutorial. This one's long overdue, a more detailed explanation of my favourite solution for avoiding holes in top-down sock gussets. Here's the shorter version... kateatherley.blogspot.com/2010/01/on-p...

Current non-knitting project: an embroidery sampler. Using threads and fabric leftover from cross-stitch projects, am working my way through 60 or so stitches in a book. Am learning lots, including that some threads are higher quality than others...

The greatest knitting bag ever?

Canadians! I found this surprisingly charming embroidery kit at Dollarama, for $4. An interesting challenge because the fabric is mesh - it's definitely made me pay more attention to the back of my work. Also have finally mastered the French knot. Imperfectly executed, I'm still learning.

Pretty darn pleased with this first attempt tbh. Made from a thrifted, slightly stained, table napkin. The instructions are fairly minimal but it's not a difficult project.

Yup. We give dire warnings about "checking" gauge but rarely explain why or what to do about it! I do love the Knitty house style for this - I think it's reasonably helpful and clear.

Just-finished mittens. Used up 48 g of a 50 g ball of yarn - yes, including a swatch. This is excellent news for a knitter, but as a designer, this is TERRIBLE. Here's why... 1/ 🧶
