There were two things that stuck with me from my most recent chat with my therapist that I'd like to share. First, my therapist was telling me how on a trip to the Amazon, she came across a line of ants that she followed. (1/๐Ÿงต) ๐Ÿ’™

Letโ€™s make one thing clear from the start: Charlie Kirk was the victim of a shooting in a country where he, along with other right-wing extremist influencers, have been inciting violence for years. โ€” Kirk is neither a martyr nor a hero, he is a cause.
I'm so proud of my little town!
Milan, Michigan kneels to #NoKings!
Our little town got over 211 people out ... over 3.5% of the town population!

Happy Birthday to the Faux King. Nobody serves you here.

I haven't posted in a while, but this really resonated.

"I'm asking you to believe not in my ability to bring about change, but in yours."

We are the ones that we have been waiting for. Stand strong today.

Reading is the key, and the gateway, to so many important things. Protect it.
It's not the first time I've said this, and it won't be the last. Reading is fundamental to freedom. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ“š

P.S. Don't believe drug companies when they blame high prices on "research & development." Most large drug companies only spend about 10-20% of their revenue on research.

Your top 10 FAQ on drug prices
Some clarity for this wildly confusing topic.
yourlocalepidemiologist.substack.com
He's essentially asking drug companies to match other countries' prices with no consequences if they don't. The reason other countries have lower prices is because they have universal health care, allowing the government to choose not to cover a drug if the manufacturer refuses to negotiate. 4/๐Ÿงต
Drug lobbyists spend millions of dollars to block laws that might limit their profits, including any kind of reform that would lower drug costs.

Additionally, Trump's executive order is unlikely to fix things because there is no mechanism of enforcement. 3/๐Ÿงต
Patents on new medications prevent other drug companies from creating generics for 12-14 years on average, and drug companies are often able to renew patents by "re-releasing" the drug with minor improvements. 2/๐Ÿงต
The reason drug prices are high comes down to several things (a๐Ÿงต based on data from @ylepidemiologist.bsky.social )

Unlike other countries, the U.S. government can't do anything to negotiate drug prices, and there are no laws that dictate how much profit drug companies are allowed to make. 1/๐Ÿงต
Why were people so angry about it?
This type of thinking along with RFK's suggestions that chronically ill and autistic people cannot be contributing members to society is eerily, and dangerously similar. ๐Ÿงต4
When Hitler started euthanizing people, he started with the disabled, but first he spread messaging to make citizens feel less sympathetic toward them. ๐Ÿงต3
This is an ignorant and dangerous mischaracterization, and only a hop, skip and a jump away from insinuating that people who become sick, or are chronically ill, brought it on themselves. ๐Ÿงต2
This "germ denial" theory has dark implications. There are people in the MAHA movement who are suggesting that the real reason people die from illness is because their "unhealthy diet" or "lack of exercise" caused damage to their immune system. 1/๐Ÿงต

Originally from Chicago, Prevost spent decades as a missionary in Peru & is seen as one of the least โ€œAmericanโ€ of the American cardinals. Still, his deep understanding of the U.S. makes him a timely pick in the Trump era.
His most recent tweet was a repost criticizing Trumpโ€™s immigration policies.
"Secretary of State Marco Rubio has increasingly instructed officials to push for regulatory approvals for Muskโ€™s satellite firm at a moment when the White House is calling for wide-ranging talks on trade."

While now released, the woman named only as 'Erika', was denied a change to speak to a lawyer and her future remains in question.

what if we put the people breaking laws and ignoring court orders into jail? is that an option? we can apparently do it to people who haven't broken any laws and are just too brown, so I have to assume we can do it to people who are actually doing bad shit, right?

I hate it here.

While the gospels say that Judas led the Romans to Jesus, a new theory is gaining traction with some Biblical scholars. There is evidence, some say, that Judas merely shared Christ's location on an insecure group chat that accidentally included several Roman officials and journalists.
