Out today: Blazing Eye Sees All, my investigation into the wide spiritual world of the New Age. It is an unintentional story of extremism, feminism, climate change, deception, power, myth and the very nature of believing. I hope you read it.

And if you’re wondering how the eff we got to where we are today, the Bundyville podcast is artful and unflinching in its examination of the self-righteous, grievance-fueled sovereign citizen movement.

The persecution that never was.

It's gonna fuck him up if he finds out we have a store called Mr. Plywood.

Trump: "Portland, I mean -- every time I look at that place it's burning down. There are fires all over the place. When a store -- there are very few of them left -- but when a store owner rebuilds a store they build it out of plywood. They don't put up storefronts anymore. They just put wood up."

Guess this story is getting some eyeballs, so two things:

Did you know I worked on a whole podcast about the 2020 Portland protests (some of the worst of which involved federal officers) and the political divisions that make all of our worlds objectively worse?

This reminds me of when Amy Carlson of Love Has Won said doctors examined her and were shocked she was the most balanced human being on earth, they’d never seen anything like it.

Later she poisoned herself with colloidal silver and turned blue.

Trump: "I also did a cognitive exam. Which is always very risky because if I didn't do well, you'd be the first to be blaring it and I had a perfect score. And one of the doctors said he's almost never seen a perfect score. I had a perfect score. That made me well good ... not the easiest test."

We are at the terrifying point where Doug Wilson is being interviewed by Ross Douthat, and there is no earnest caveat of his extremism.

I interviewed Wilson in 2020. Compare Douthat's interview and this, and you'll see only one is not normalizing his bigotry:

Hush is an investigative podcast from OPB, uncovering the buried truth about critical stories in the Pacific Northwest. In March 2019, in Rainier, Oregon, 18-year-old Sarah Zuber was found dead 400 feet from her front door. Six years later, her family still has no clue what happened to her.

The new season of Hush begins! It's a really interesting investigation that takes on true crime tropes, the pitfalls of citizen sleuthing, politicizing literally everything and the collapse of local journalism.

Oh, and all told in that enthralling @leahsottile.bsky.social style!

"The overarching narrative here is one that has become increasingly exhausting for a young progressive audience: Feel free to protest, but if anyone in your cohort approaches the unpresentable, your whole movement is lost."
