I would put the word "settle" in quotes. Without the quote marks, it suggests the land was uninhabited.

Capitalism wears many different disguises. For instance, "democratic socialism." I'm finally realizing that you add that adjective "democratic," what you get is LESS democratic, not more. Just ask this question: Is the workplace a democracy? Or is it controlled by the "owners" (i.e., capitalists)?

So "socialists" who add the adjective "democratic" are trying to appear more democratic, but they're actually less. They may have good intentions.

Keith, I think it means either (a) Mamdani is a fake and a liar, or (b) Mamdani is well-intentioned but he has been fooled by other people who are fakes and liars.

Real socialists want workplaces controlled by the workers. That would be real democracy. But the people ... [continued]

[continued] ... at least; it means the workers should control the means of production. The people who add the adjective "democratic" think they are being more democratic, but they are actually being less democratic -- you don't have a real democracy if the workers aren't controlling the workplaces.

I won't be reading the whole article -- the NYT is too far to the right for me, and it's paywalled. But tell me, please, which Wolf said Mamdani is a "progressive capitalist"? Israel have been bombing Palestinians today as if there is no ceasefire, and they will continue to do so and everyone will ignore it.

Dems are only a lesser evil, but now I see that it makes a difference. I've been voting 3rd party for years, but now I will start campaigning for the non-fascist party. (And then to overthrow capitalism.)

In 2024 I believed that "lesser evil" didn't outweigh genocide, so I voted 3rd party. But I no longer believe that. Now I see what fascism is.
