📚 Who let the politicians out? 🙋‍♀️
I did — in The Person in Politics. The book shows how pronouns in U.S. presidential nomination speeches drive personalization: spotlighting leaders, building “us” vs. “them,” and shaping collective identities. tinyurl.com/5a3y7h9a

🕊️ Not a Chomskyan, academically speaking. But this line holds:
“If we don't believe in freedom of expression for people we despise, we don't believe in it at all.”
Hungary seems to be drifting further from that principle. telex.hu/english/2025...

🗣️🎙️Had a great time with my doctoral student, Utku Bozdag, at the Research Lounge roundtable hosted by Corvinus Library and the Doctoral Student Union. We shared our encounters with Reviewer 2 and our publication experiences — with only minor revisions.

👩‍🏫 🥇Super-proud of my student, Balázs Horváth, who won 1st place at the National Scientific Students’ Associations Conference. His results contribute to understanding political personalisation in the context of Hungarian politics at the time of the coronavirus pandemic.

🏞️ We checked out the evolving conceptualisation of Central Asian countries in Western news articles and found evidence of CA appearing as an ally. However, the region being “Russia’s backyard” sentiment still persists via references to the Soviet Union. Read more here: tinyurl.com/3wm3s7hp

🙈 🌞 One of those days: one young researcher’s award snub and two abstract rejects (from the same conference!) all stocked for the end of January (at least it’s over). To top it all off, I burned lunch. Gonna wipe the tears with our latest paper – also published today as the highlight of the day!

🧓 Want to avoid late-onset depression? Just be a senior, not elderly!

📰 Our research in Text & Talk shows that Australian news media portrays depression as less severe and more treatable in seniors than in the elderly.

☕️👀 I read “The Puzzle of Vehicle Selection in Conceptual Metonymies”—and you should too! My review in LaMiCuS explains why I recommend pairing it with a good coffee. After all, as the book shows, you can enjoy a “cup” and still end up with coffee!

🫀👀 Oh my heart, I reviewed the volume “Embodiment in cross-linguistic studies: The ‘heart’,” discussing the conceptualisation of the heart across 19 languages on 479 pages. And I recommend reading those pages from the bottom of…you know what.
