Games I finished in 2025 thread!

So it's more like an element and rule of thumb to be maximized rather than strict checklist like "lives, only select genres, etc"

Def directly opposite to soup frameworks and genres

Puzzle games should be about puzzles, narrative about narrative, etc with minimal other elements added unless they can be justified by anything more than "novelty", same with genre mixing

Depends on how we define "arcade" philosophy. The way i see it it's about focus and density. Which is what the economics of it promoted and created. That can apply to basically any type of game. Obv "focus" will look diff depending on the Game type

Wonderful that console design paradigm won out and became the default 😀👍

For like 20 years of gaming history

Arcade devs had to fine tune games that were challenging enough to keep players coming back, and fun enough to keep them playing, to make any money

While console devs could just slap a cover on anything and get 60$ immediately w

The Arcades were such a damn quarter munching scam, I much prefer paying 90$ at once for a game I know nothing about

200+ full attempts to beat Final Fight with cash leftover

Or

ET the Game forever

Easy win for ET

>premiering at 2am on a work night

Markiplier pls....

Main campaign + Grimm + all endings + Colloseum

Every once in a while the game would stay open for variety of reasons, but I highly doubt it added anything more than maybe 4 hours on top

Still a useful comparison to both rag on HK, and tear down that "There is no time for challenging games"

Fun Fact: It took me 1 hour more to crawl through Hollow Knights campaign and exploration...

than it did for me to become top 0,4% of 100,000 players in Hyper Demon...

I have no words...

ok but what if instead we just imagine one of us doesnt have a "fuck you die button" and get into akward situations
localbuttonmasher.bsky.social
They have unfortunately been doing that for a while...

How it feels to go to Backloggd to update my Hyper Demon log with PB 280 -> 307.241

Keep in mind, I have posted almost nothing positive about NG4 since its reveal

I just think if you are to be mad at the game, you should be mad for more real gameplay reasons (like me)

Ofc platinum shafting in favor of their OC leaved a bad taste anyway
localbuttonmasher.bsky.social
With the recent info on NG4 out, my super hot take, is that it depends on the gameplay...

If the gameplay is good, then its good whether its Ryu or Yaku as a skin

if its bad, it could have been a total love letter to the series and I would still call it bad

Was shown a hyper-niche Procedural generated Arcade game called "Rolling Bird" that only costs 1$

Feels like another Post-Void type find

Still struggling on the first level

E33 is free to be praised and win any other category

But if it wins gameplay, it's the industry stating that turn based gameplay has 0 value, and is just a worse version of real time games
localbuttonmasher.bsky.social
I understand that majority of THAT genre playerbase sees the gameplay as nothing more than a vehicle for other elements...

But a turn based game that strategy boils down to segmented timing checks, should really not win anything gameplay related

This is common sense

Just a small demo bro... it will be done in 2 days

Vision control I refer to FPS games

And probability management I mean actual fuzzy one like strategies that have a certain chance to backfire

"Sighhh if only we could have procgen and heavy RNG elements without having the obligatory dogshit 'choose 1 of 3 power ups' screen..."

YOU CAN, YOU CAN! YOU CAN JUST PUT THE GOOD ROGUE ELEMENTS IN ARCADEY GAMES WITHOUT THE BAD!

Procedural generation is not inherently tied to synergySlop

Movement mechanics (rolls, dashes, etc) are not inherently tied to IframeSlop

You can take the good without the bad in a lot of things ❤️

The two most overlooked skill sets that some games test, but players are blind to:

Probability management, ans Vision Control

Both for slightly different reasons
