🚨 Hot off the press! We show that species loss from key habitats (like wetlands) accelerates secondary extinction in regional multi-habitat food webs. Also, we show the importance of common species to regional food web robustness. doi.org/10.1038/s420...

Species loss in key habitats accelerates regional food web disruption - Communications Biology
Simulating extinctions across regional food webs reveals that losing species from one habitat— especially wetlands—can cascade to others, accelerating multi-habitat food web collapse, highlighting the...

Nice reporting from @meganewald.bsky.social on point if use #eDNA detections of West African Manatees

Excited for what the future holds in being able to rapidly test for endangered cryptic species - particularly the rotund ones
Africa’s manatees are highly elusive. A new DNA test promises to reveal their presence
Genetic traces in water could help survey populations under growing threat

Monitoring the biodiversity of small mammals and amphibians in the Pumalin park using #eDNA in collaboration with Rewilding Chile. We use a peristaltic pump and long filtration to concentrate rare DNA in the sampling capsules.

We've computed high-resolution extinction risk maps for aquatic & terrestrial species across Switzerland.

🌍🔬 They highlight the importance of each pixel for conserving species richness at the national scale.

Pre-print alert! 🚨 Excited to share my second PhD chapter: species link habitats through food webs. We show that removing species from one habitat (e.g., wetlands) can cascade across the multi-habitat regional food web, reducing its robustness. 🌿🐝🐦🦌 Check it out here: doi.org/10.21203/rs....

🌿"Project update"🌳

Successfully completed field season from canton of Ticino for invasive Japanese beetle project, aiming to develop rapid detection solutions for this quarantine organism. We have collected almost 200 samples and are now processing them in the lab.
