I don't think most people are well aware of the problem. Any redistribution of wealth is seen as communism. The poor are separated into deserving poor, and the undeserving poor that deserve their fate.
Absofuckinglutely. What drives me nuts is the apparently "left" party of Labour buys into it, we "worry" about scaring the rich away, capital flight. They're not contributing to society they are draining it. If they don't want to contribute they can fuck off and good riddance.
This is a graph showing real GDP per capita increase. It's mostly positive. Per capita, adjusted for inflation, we should be getting richer. Does it feel that way? The only explanation as to why it doesn't that makes sense to me is growing inequality.
The solutions proposed for New Zealand's (and virtually every other country's) problems are always like: "We need to make people work for more years" "We have to cut back on services, I'm sorry, there is just no other way" "We have to cut benefits for young people"
There were 37 or so candidates for local council in Palmerston North. I was pretty cautious in my picks. Thanks to the posting and work of @azlemed04.bsky.social and @norightturnnz.bsky.social I ended up voting for maybe about 9.
I have a target of running 100m in under 10s, but to make the goal easier, I will adjust the distance to 30m and if I achieve my result, still say I can run 100m in under 10s.
Was reminded both on TV and earlier by my wife that it was protests outside politician's homes that stopped the Dawn Raids. With our politicians increasingly curating where they are available, I am unsure how I feel about it being a criminal act to protest outside someone's home.
