YEAH! Yeah thats how I've been snagged! Cause characters can't be important for too long since there are always more characters to replace them down the road, and the story has to stay open ended because finishing it loses money.

The "roll for the thing" mechanic even makes normal games worse by being there at all, because that random factor either gates you from things you don't need to be kept away from (Xenoblade 2), or they mayter so little that they don't actually add anything you'd care about (Fire Emblem" Engage)

When a game like that is in a Complete state, two things happen. One, people stop buying. Two, players lose their investment, paid or not. Something that's made to never be Done until it dies just can't be a great and lasting experience. It's not allowed to, cause players have to spend for years.
