yeah, it's pretty surprising. when they are chosen, it's a pretty 'typical' type, and I just seriously hope that -- just like the gap in BIPOC judges and guests -- we can do a bit more work to make sure those groups are properly represented in their range.

i just think it's super important to show a wide range of what nonbinary and trans people -- this doesn't even get me started on the fact most tables invite androgynous, thin, white people. but that's like, it's own separate beast obviously.

honestly it gets bundled into an lgbtq table. there are some cons that do invite nonbinary people, but they basically only invite femme-presenting people to the table. i've also seen an occasional table have a trans person, but it's someone who passes "traditionally". there's room for more!

I LOVE YOU FEY!!! honestly tekko's guesting policies are an a+ model to me. i low key don't care if a con turns me down (everyone's got different needs) but if you're a staffer and say that to me...is that con REALLY a safe place for nonbinary or trans folks at all??????

...but when someone femme or nonbinary dips into fabrication, they're ripped/not taken seriously, and not given nearly the same amount of grace, and don't even get me started on how bipoc and plus size stuff factors into all of this too lol. discrimination is discrimination no matter the hobby

there is an argument in cosplay that "cis men are the minority" but frankly that is simply not true across much of the greater fabrication world at large, and despite this belief, they still benefit from the privilege. i've seen many get a pat on the head for being able to use a sewing machine...

im asking all of these 'gender in cosplay' roundtables to maybe consider inviting ONE trans person to them. a single one, please. even a nonbinary person would be really great! i have folks stress about 'passing' in comp judging rooms now too, and having someone trans as a guest would be cool too!

you could be trans in public, then it was 'can be trans in public if you pass', then it's 'cannot be trans in public unless you pass and it's typical gender norms' and now it's simply 'you best not be trans in public unless you're nonbinary and femme'. and this is why im wiping my socials mostly tbh

i have a lot of feelings about this but my tldr is i recently reached out to a con looking for diverse voices to guest, and they said they 'wanted men', and when i said i was transmasc, they said they 'wanted men that other con-going men could identify with' and that's just where we are right now

honestly, the term 'master' is such a wide range these days -- i promise you, don't stress too much about your category, especially being in tx where many people get "bumped". i've judged masters with raw/unfinished seams and novices with technically sharp costumes. your work deserves to be there!

Fresh wet results vs post wash in warm water and dry results! Nice and mottled so a great base for my liner of my jacket. This is bemberg rayon, my favorite liner fabric

why two different methods? we wanted something a bit more 3D (like the in game render) on the 'visible' pieces like the lapel and sleeves -- i'll be using neon/uv glow pigment for my coral. for the inside, stamping it makes a bit more sense as it'll be 90% hidden.

for me and @solaheikacos.bsky.social 's matching liners, we'll be dyeing using ice and/or salt + fiber reactives, and she's whipped up these stencils to stamp the inner liner, and the mold box to silicone cast the vines for the lapel and outer sleeve details. this is so we match!
