Sadly missing the No Kings rally to study for midterms, but it occurred to me that I could just hold up my Epi textbook and it would work fine as a denouncement of this administration.

I’m surprised Minnesota isn’t part of this tbh
15 US states and territories have formed a new Public Health Alliance, which will counter the absence of federal leadership by tracking outbreaks, issuing guidance, buying vaccines and more.

Members of the new alliance include CA, CO, CT, DE, GU, HI, IL, MD, MA, NJ, NY, NC, OR, RI, WA.

NHANES runs mobile clinics that travel the country measuring height, weight, & blood pressure while collecting blood and urine samples. These samples are our only national source for tracking everything from blood sugar to hormones, heavy metals, and more.

The entire operation has been eliminated.
Everyone across biomedicine should be very loud about this so this team's RIF status gets reversed. Nhanes has been key for tracking obesity & diabetes rates, identifying high blood lead levels in kids in the 70s, tracking progress on cholesterol lowering, guiding nutrient fortification programs etc
Crazy working on my problem set for class and using NHANES data, knowing that we might not have this resource moving forward :(

Americans collectively have forgotten that yellow fever and malaria were once endemic in our country. To be fair, it’s not something we’re ever taught in school; I had no idea until I started studying public health!

And now, especially w/ climate change, there’s little stopping it from coming back.
You can also ask your pharmacist! They are truly an underutilized (and yet overworked) community health resource.
Eventually, everything will be a podcast

The fact that even Marjorie Taylor Greene has come out in favor of extending the ACA subsidies and the GOP leadership refuses to negotiate is crazy.

I hope more families will check their premiums and call or email their reps & senators!
Making milk great again! (Bringing back the borax and formaldehyde)
Would love to see nuclear taking on a bigger chunk here as well, so we can further phase out fossil fuels.
What horrible news. I supposed firings in other agencies have been somewhat overshadowed by those at CDC.

The inability of this administration to consider the relevance of health preparedness to national security will leave us so vulnerable.
What could go wrong ….
Really love this plain language breakdown on the reality behind House of Dynamite (no jargon, minimal acronyms).

I enjoyed this film, and it's a great reminder of the need for nuclear de-escalation and disarmament. I'd say it's worth seeing on the big screen, if you can.
Really enjoyed seeing this one in theaters! Like so many, I think it benefits from being on the big screen, with a good sound system.
Even if it’s no longer an official CDC campaign, this is definitely how I’ll be framing flu shots when my friends and family ask.
Can’t believe some of the EIS officers have been through this twice now.

Is CDC hiring a new class this year? I know many of the fellowships are on hold. The longer these programs are suspended, the more they will atrophy and become harder to re-boot to their current quality.
Can’t believe we’re doing this whole routine again …
Absolutely crushing for all the staff who are going through this for a second time.
What powers exactly does a governor have to act here? The national guard, once federalized, is out of his control. And state officials can’t impede federal law enforcement, I’m pretty sure.

It seems that the state is fighting these actions rather vigorously in the courts, which they should.
A challenge to say the very very least
Very few, if any, states are prepared to raise taxes and spending to the degree that would be required to replace CDC resources (not to mention all the other federal functions being damaged/neglected/destroyed)
The state health departments themselves receive hundreds of millions of dollars from the CDC in grants and cooperative agreements.

States would have to majorly shift their fiscal policies to even come close to replacing what will be lost.
The infosec team at CDC as well (along with many many other important teams and divisions)
