Comics very often don't get a dedicated copyedit, and sometimes there's a good reason for that. But fixing spelling, formatting, and continuity issues before the text is lettered makes things SO much easier for everyone—and your letterer and proofreader will thank you.
3 Reasons to Copyedit Your Comic Script — Madeleine Vasaly
Copyediting isn’t always part of the publishing process in comics, but it can benefit the work and everyone involved.

I got both together and was feverish and achy all night and a bit under the weather the next day. First time I've had much of a reaction since the original covid shots, I think.

The 2025–2026 @pensite.org season kicks off tonight, and for the first time in a long time, I won’t be running the meeting!

After 7(!) years on the PEN board, my retirement officially goes into effect this week. I’ve had the pleasure of working with so many lovely people over all that time.

Don’t worry, once we’ve helped them come for immigrants and trans people, they’re sure to be appeased and dedicated to solidarity in our great big tent and not come after anyone else, as history teaches

It's Letterer Appreciation Day! Today only, get 15% off my book on comics style with the code LETTERER.

Good lettering is seriously underrated. And in comics and graphic novels, the letterer is one of the people whose work most affects—and is most affected by—the work of the proofreader.

These movies love ignoring their own messages. Like in Jurassic World when Bryce Dallas Howard says "corporate" thinks they need to "up the wow factor" with genetic modification, and Chris Pratt goes, "They’re dinosaurs. Wow enough."

I really hoped they were being self-aware there, but no.

there's an interesting idea threaded through the last three or four Jurassic Park movies: mega corporations are convinced cloning dinosaurs is worth a huge amount of money somehow but it never ever pans out

you could make a really fun movie or series with this as the underlying premise

Most of my SDCC photos are crappy snapshots taken on the move, but I'm glad this one came out halfway decent. The cosplayer (AZ Tony Stark) happened to walk by me on a lunch break and you couldn't NOT notice that suit.

Yall I got to look at this book during SDCC and it's great. The very first page I opened covered 2 different questions I'd literally always had about editing. Be sure to check it out.

Someone is selling a Tutant Meenage Neetle Teetles cross-stitch in the @twincitiesgeek.com Facebook group and let me tell you, that stupid meme has not stopped being funny after two years of working professionally on Ninja Turtles content.

I masked at CVG except when I was speaking on panels. I got covid there last year but escaped it this time.

Knock on wood, but I think I made it through SDCC and a six-hour flight diversion without getting covid. Shoutout to N95s.
