I write and talk about sports for a living. Quilt, sew, bake and love Chicago. Probably making a Taskmaster or Murder, She Wrote joke. I won't answer any questions you can figure out for yourself with a quick search. I'm here for conversation, not debate.

Since Broadview is so close to where I grew up and much of my family is near there, I want to be a resource for anyone heading there to protest. To begin with, here are some places where you can go and grab some food not far from the Broadview ICE facility. These are all BIPOC owned and delish.

I said to my husband last night that the Cubs weren't going to win it all, so I can live with them getting bounced.

But this? This hurts.

Pope Leo XIV: “Han perdido! They lost!”

Happy to block anyone whose contribution in this moment is to immediately police the language people are using to describe fed invasions of their cities. People are going to be imprecise. They are experiencing immense trauma. If you haven't had a gun pointed at you recently, maybe sit this one out

This is because the feds won't stop gassing our neighborhoods so they can flee and, by extension, are also repeatedly gassing the cops. What a moment to be alive

Cake is mad. Sully is quite annoyed he has to wait for dinner time to enjoy said cake. And yes, he is now 10!

Going to make my dog a birthday cake now because the world is terrifying me but I will not give up on whimsy.

I don't have a ton of control over that but agreed.

We're told at least one person was arrested—and later released with a citation for disorderly—by Broadview police for simply being on the Maywood side of 25th at Harvard St outside the ICE facility this morning.

They were documenting agents coming and going as electeds have told people to do.

Oh yeah, the fear of losing your job was so, so real! I got laid off right after a knee surgery and ended up having to cut my PT a few weeks short.

My asthma doctor was amazing. She would get me samples and got me into studies and saw me off the books when I got a bad sinus infection that could have landed me in the hospital. But still, it was a terrifying time for me and you know what's not good for asthma? Stress!

My first year and a half as a full-time sportswriter, my employer didn't give me health insurance and I couldn't get it privately because of having asthma. I had to pay out of pocket for Advair, the expensive preventative that kept me from having major, ER-visit kind of attacks.

People have bad memories; before the ACA people with serious health issues either had to pay ridiculous prices (thousands of dollars a month) or were denied insurance altogether. Republicans want to bring back that world.
