a moment of random assessment:

still on track to be babbling and drooling before the end of the year.

and will corporate media keep riding along trying to clean up that mess?

ah, Portland, they'll never take weird away from you. Your freedom will out! Thank you!

thiel, man, what the fuck are you talking about

He describes the plot of Watchmen, a 1986 graphic novel involving superheroes grappling with moral questions about humanity against the backdrop of impending nuclear war:

The antihero Ozymandias, the antichrist-type figure, is sort of an early-modern person. He believes this will be a timeless and eternal solution – eternal world peace. Moore is sort of a late-modern. In early modernity, you have ideal solutions, ‘perfect’ solutions to calculus. In late modernity, things are sort of probabilistic. And at some point, he asks Dr Manhattan whether the world government is going to last. And he says that ‘nothing lasts forever.’ So you embrace the antichrist and it still doesn’t work.

Thiel later finds biblical meaning in the manga One Piece, discussing how he believes it represents a future where an antichrist-like one-world government has repressed science. He believes that the hero, Monkey D Luffy, represents a Christlike figure.

In One Piece, you are set in a fantasy world, again sort of an alternate earth, but it’s 800 years into the reign of this one-world state. Which, as the story unfolds, gradually gets darker and darker. You sort of realize, in my interpretation, who runs the world and it’s something like the antichrist. There’s Luffy, a pirate who wears a red straw hat, sort of like Christ’s crown of thorns. And then towards the end of the story, transforms into a figure who resembles Christ in Revelation.

Thiel, along with a researcher and writer at Thiel Capital, explored these ideas at greater length in an essay for the religious journal First Things earlier this month.

have been thinking of rewatching THE FIRST PURGE in light of the federal paramilitaries trying to instigate violence and provoke a reaction from americans

this story sounds like a New Coke ad.

in my feed, mikie here is stacked right below vance on army pay.

two sociopaths in a row.

it's just a goddam shame that presidential replacements 1 and 2 are these sick fucks.
mapablue.bsky.social
anyone who, by this time, doesn't realize this guy is a lying sociopath — welp, i would say they really need some sort of transformational growth and development from somewhere, from someone.

my thoughts exactly. trump's statement parallels the firings and chaos those incompetent and deranged people he put in charge of the FBI. they are "cleaning out the deep state," witch-hunting whatever integrity there was out of the agency.

'nuther morning thought:

the nixon tuh raygun transition (as The Firesign Theatre so aptly described it, "we're bringing the war back home!") got nuttin' on our trumpian nightmare.

tho a lot of us are just "finding ourselves here," it doesn't mean we can't stop this cruelty.

resist.

October 18.

Morning thought:

If the desire is to separate the United States Constitution from democracy, one only has to separate words from their meanings.

(For an evil member of scotus, that would be easy, evidently.)

yeah, i was "one down, one to go" after your "yankees, hah, hah" post earlier this week. so, Milwaukee, woo, woo.

Yes!!! Just thinking about them makes me want to watch them again, but especially DK's. Her roles/characters so often make me feel very happy.
mapablue.bsky.social
put 'em both together and it's:

"'Hey, everybody, grab your frog suit and hit the streets on October 18,' thus saith the lord."
mapablue.bsky.social
i can't talk either, i fix eggs, turkey bacon, ground chicken burgers and other stuff and out my kitchen window enjoy the antics at my finch feeders and of the hummingbirds at the flowers i planted.

I too think Keaton was a great and will miss her,
but does the name Helen Hunt sound familiar?

*something's gotta give* was when she stole the movie from nicholson.
mapablue.bsky.social
i worry about people around trump who profess to be "concerned about the children."

and this one is like a blinking red light.

NY Times commenters my partner is annoyed with:

mansplainers on why OCTOBER 18 protest "won't work" or will be "a risk" because Big Brother is watching, blah blah blah.

Heard this before as far back as Vietnam war protests. Some are odder & sound like people who think about fallout shelters.

If someone merely acknowledging the humanity of your enemies enrages you, you’re the baddies.

this is definitely one up on the doughnut fishing poles in Portland.

when someone does a cheesy performance apocalypse movie about the cheesy performance American fascist president qua anti-christ, this scene can be cut into the script to add a little realism to what will no-doubt be the schlockiest movie the world has ever seen.

UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.
