From Rhododendron Flats, the HBC men of Anderson's exploring party climbed the hill and found a small pond with a tree that was then named "Anderson's Tree," in a ceremony in honor of their leader. #TheHBCBrigades

In three of his maps, Alexander Caulfield Anderson has drawn Anderson's Tree, southeast of the lake he named Council's Punch Bowl. It is a Maypole Tree.

In 1846, when he was making his way home to #Kamloops from #FortLangley, Anderson and his party of men walked through a grove of California Rhododendrons -- in modern-day Manning Park. #TheHBCBrigades

The provisioning post of Fort Pitt was established on the North #Saskatchewan River in the early 1830s, and for the first winter, at least, the HBC men lived in tents. #YorkFactoryExpress

Upriver from #FortLangley was a large lake on which the Sto:lo people made their homes, living in houses on stilts to protect themselves from mosquitoes. The Lake no longer exists, unfortunately.... #TheHBCBrigades

Anderson's 1867 map of British Columbia shows the Natives' and HBC traders' Smess, once a massive lake but now converted into farmland.
