Bird photographer hobbyist. Began birding to give my then 13-year-old child and I something in common. Now years later, I'm obsessed, and they could care less. All photos are my own unless otherwise noted. #exPost #exX #Ohio

Happy Saturday friends... finding a Hermit Thrush in the fall is one thing. Finding one just chilling out on a bush is another. Was very happy to find this fellow. #birds #birdingOH #wildlife #nature #photography #eastcoastkin
Center right of frame, perched upright, facing away from viewer but looking right sits a Hermit Thrush on the vine of a nearby bush. From Allaboutbird.org., Hermit Thrushes have a chunky shape similar to an American Robin, but smaller. They stand upright, often with the slender, straight bill slightly raised. Like other thrushes, the head is round and the tail fairly long. Note, dressed for winter, their usual cinnamon coloring is a darker with a hint of olive green for good measure.

stayed up till 1 am watching tiger's vs Mariners and as much as I dislike your team, gotta give them credit. They made the Mariner work for that privilege. Let's go American League!!!

Happy Friday… I’ll take cubs over dodgers… want the Brewers to go too. If Skubal can keep the mariners bats in check u have a chance.

Otherwise.. enjoy this beautiful autumn day!

Happy #FeatheredFriday friends... I have a very early morning appointment, so posting photo now. Got super lucky while birding, when four Buff-breasted Sandpipers came walking toward me. Got a better shot when one stopped to visit. #birds #birdingOH #wildlife #photography #nature #eastcoastkin
Center frame, facing and looking left, standing upon the grassy plane of Howard Marsh Metropark, Bono, OH. From Allaboutbirds.org., The slender Buff-breasted Sandpiper, with its warm tones, neat streaking, and wide-eyed expression, is one of the most delicately beautiful of the shorebirds. Unlike most shorebirds, Buff-breasted Sandpipers forage in dry, grassy habitats, not wetlands. Sadly, extensive loss of grasslands along its migration route has contributed to heavy population declines. A small, delicately built shorebird with a fairly long neck, rounded head, and large eye. The bill is slender and short for a sandpiper bill (about the length of the head). At rest, the wingtips are about the length of the tail. Legs are fairly long. All plumages are bright buff overall, with fine black streaks on the crown and dark centers to the back and upperwing feathers, giving a neat, scaly appearance. The underwing flashes white in flight and in display, with a dark comma at the wrist (carpal joint). The bill is dark and the legs yellow.

Happy Thursday friends... Been seeing more and more of these little Ruby-crowned Kinglets arrive, marking almost an end to the fall songbird migration. #birds #birdingOH #wildlife #nature #photography #fallmigration
Center left of frame, facing right on a leaf-filed branch, a Ruby-crowned Kinglet busily moves down the branch looking for bugs and larvae. From Allaboutbirds.org., Kinglets are tiny songbirds with relatively large heads, almost no neck, and thin tails. They have very small, thin, straight bills. Ruby-crowned Kinglets are olive-green birds with a prominent white eyering and white wingbar. This wingbar contrasts with an adjacent blackish bar in the wing. The “ruby crown” of the male is only occasionally visible.

ya, it's all fun... I'm an American league fan so whomever gets in I'll root for (thank goodness not the Yankees). But I have to be honest... if the Brewers make it to the show, I may change leagues and root for them--another small market-little respected team. Have a good day, Beth!

When we lose our capacity to be outraged & shocked by the lawless, corrupt, dishonest, ignorant, cruel, un-American, fascist, & just plain horrible things Trump does every day, he wins. So stay outraged. Stay shocked. Don’t ever normalize him.👇 open.substack.com/pub/socialco...

Rural Ohio families are paying the price for federal policy chaos. The shutdown threatens farmers’ livelihoods and rural hospitals, all to raise health insurance costs by nearly 90%. Our communities need stability, not games with people’s health and tariffs making it even worse.

My daughter's BF decided to rely on ChatGPT for his final paper in college. He received an F-begged for 2nd chance so he could graduate. Taking the "easy road" is ALWAYS filled with unexpected problems worse, than the original hard road. Boggles the mind kids don't "THINK" these days.

This is good news. It would be even better if Trump wasn't torpedoing the U.S. solar and wind industry and ceding the energy future to China. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Pritzker: "He wants to militarize major cities because he wants us to get used to the idea of troops on the streets. I believe he's gonna post people outside of polling places and if he needs to in order to control those elections, he'll assume control of the ballot boxes & count the votes himself"

Happy Wednesday friends... Happily came across two Lincoln Sparrows on Saturday and am glad one gave me a good look. #birds #birdingOH #wildlife #nature #photography #EastCoastKin
Center right, facing forward, looking left on a dead tree branch; decaying reeds make up the blurred background. From Allaboutbirds.org., The Lincoln's Sparrow is a medium-sized sparrow with a dainty appearance. It has a rounded belly and head, but the back of its head often looks pointed or crested when it raises its crown feathers. Its tail is relatively short and its conical bill is a bit thinner compared to most other sparrows. The Lincoln's Sparrow is streaky brown, buffy, and gray overall with rusty edges to its wings and tail. Its chest and sides are rich buff with fine black streaking that fades into a white belly. Its face is marked by a buffy mustache stripe that is bordered by thin brown lines. A buffy eyering, a thick gray eyebrow, and a dark eyeline mark the area around the eye. Its crown is striped brown and black with a gray central crown stripe.

Ya, wish we had seen this “Flaherty” last week… yet, the Mariners I think are set to play in the Series-they played so well down the stretch and have momentum. Hope your boys aren’t humiliated at home. Have a good day!

💯. At the very least, if a criminal calls you or you call a criminal in the middle of his execution of a criminal conspiracy, you should expect that those conversations may be a subject of inquiry.

We enjoyed watching their attempt to climb higher-going from tree branch to tree branch, but never finding the right purchase or angle to attack from. The squirrel made his daring escape look easy-all while carrying a walnut in its mouth; annoyed and vocal and the hawk left wondering what happened.

Happy Tuesday friends! Only 25%of immature Red-tailed Hawks live to adulthood, b/c their hunting skills have a steep learning curve. This kid failed to catch a very quick and skillful Red-squirrel. Hopefully their next attempt is easier. #birds #birdingOH #wildlife #nature #photography #EastCoastKin
Center left of frame, hunched-leaning forward on a thin leafless branch, eyes forward, looking up, wings slightly out perhaps to offer balance Light green blurred background from surrounding trees. This juvenile Red-tailed hawk watched as his wannabe meal climbed higher and higher into the tree canopy--trying to find another tree limb to support and assist in their desire to catch and eat a Red-squirrel. Thankfully for the squirrel, the bird's choices were unsuccessful.

From Allaboutbirds.org., Red-tailed Hawks are large hawks with typical Buteo proportions: very broad, rounded wings and a short, wide tail. Large females seen from a distance might fool you into thinking you’re seeing an eagle. (Until an actual eagle comes along.) Most Red-tailed Hawks are rich brown above and pale below, with a streaked belly and, on the wing underside, a dark bar between shoulder and wrist. The tail is usually pale below and cinnamon-red above, though in young birds it’s brown and banded.

I think she can lie behind that cross she’s wearing, because if it were a crucifix, you would see Jesus hanging from the cross. Who knows what her cross if referencing—maybe to scare off vampires or werewolves.

Now you can see how easily I walked past this oh so quiet and subtle beauty.... but if you are serious, see the green leaf, look right behind it or find the large black eye and the rest of the bird should come into focus.
