Framing climate change and climate science as a “debate” sews widespread doubt and division on the foundation of its research.

While our understanding does continue to evolve, the existence of climate change and the seriousness of its impacts are not in question.

Why the US government is trying to revive the climate change ‘debate’
The Department of Energy is calling for "honest dialogue." It looks a lot like a playbook from the past.

🚨 NEW: Climate change is already causing 30,000 deaths per year - a global annual economic loss of $100-350B USD - but the true damage is probably 10x higher. Out TODAY in Nature Climate Change: the first systematic look at the science of "health impact attribution" 🔓 www.nature.com/articles/s41...
"Health losses attributed to anthropogenic climate change," a brief communication in the journal Nature Climate Change. There's a map showing regions of the world, and pie charts of relevant studies as they apply to different health impacts like "heat-related deaths" and "maternal and child health"

Just updated my regular look at what power sources are driving the US electric sector on a % basis. Nice cause for optimism. Renewables still growing. Coal use slightly increasing recently but all at the expense of natural gas - which is just economic switching.

Urban planning is traditionally car-centric. Not only does this create less opportunity for physical exercise, it increases reliance on greenhouse gas polluting vehicles. We need to shift away from this standard to walkable cities.

Climate solutions are health solutions.

Struggling to get in your daily steps? It may be your city's fault.
Can urban design actually motivate people to walk more? New data says yes - people in walkable cities get about 20 percent more steps.

[COMMENTARY]

Brazil’s planned reconstruction of the BR-319 federal highway is linked to plans for five state highways & a huge oil & gas project that would open a vast area of Amazon Rainforest to deforestation, states a new op-ed.

Brazil’s new licensing accord is a gateway to forest destruction via the BR-319 highway (commentary)
On July 15, Brazil’s Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MMA) and the Ministry of Transportation reached an “accord” for licensing the notorious BR-319 (Manaus-Porto Velho) highway…

Heck yes! Taxing carbon pollution is an idea that US voters across the political spectrum embrace. Our latest poll, for example, shows 81% of registered voters support the approach proposed in the Foreign Pollution Fee Act. climatecommunication.gmu.edu/all/climate-...
