Is he coming to see us at UMN next week? Rifle throw and catch phase space has a place maybe?

I remember a view like that from March 2009.

#PortfolioDay I'm Andy, a mathematician (complex differential geometry) who left academia in 2023 with the aim of cultivating love of math while earning a modest living selling original images and objects created with GPL tools and my own software.

One of my college pals had her transcripts lost at UCSD. She was distraught and they let her into the office where she noticed stacks of transcripts stacked high on file cabinets. A bunch had slid off into the gap between the wall and cabinet.

Maybe it's behind this one?

Yep.

I love the energy of this guy and the elementary math level he starts at.

If you love algebraic geometry and want a quick intro(30 minutes) that you can share with friends that are maybe pre-calc savvy. This is very good.
@acidlich.bsky.social - maybe some of your students?

You too can write to your mathematical heart's content on our Common Room tables. And you can do it everyday for three years as part of a research group exploring connections between probability and number theory.

Happy birthday to one of greatest mathematicians of all time Emmy Noether (1882-1935), here with her eponymous theorem, the backbone of modern physics. 🧪🐡👩‍🔬🧮 #histsci Noether's theorem links any symmetry of a system with a conservation law. In my portrait, I chose to depict a young Emmy in front 🧵1/n
My linocut portrait of Emmy Noether in front of a blackboard with diagrams and equations. Noether is printed in blue. She has her hair up and wears a pin-striped buttoned shirt with puffy sleeves, bow tie, tweed skirt with belt and is shown from waist up, turned slightly away from the viewer. The blackboard is green and shows a simple form of Noether’s equations at the top. On the left are three diagrams to represent translational symmetry (a frame of reference or 3 orthogonal axes and a straight diagonal arrow to a second frame of reference); rotational symmetry (a frame of reference and curved arrow to a second rotated frame of reference); and time symmetry (two simple clocks with an arrow between them and their hands at different places). On the right are the three associated conserved quantities: momentum (a p with arrow above it); angular momentum (an L with arrow above it); and energy (E).

Mr. D has 17 people in a class (incl himself). Oddly fascinated by the number, he decided to collect 17 candies a day, every day, for a week.

He brings the candies to class and distributes them all among the 15 students (one was absent!).

Prove there must be a pair of Ss who get the same # of 🍬's.
