The Porsche Taycan has to be one of the most unfluential designs in the modern automotive world. You see its DNA everywhere, from Shanghai to Stuttgart

Lithium iron-phosphate battery tech was developed in the U.S.

We then ignored it.

"Now, U.S. manufacturers rely on foreign entities of concern, resulting in GOP backlash in Washington, DC, and have to play catch-up as affordable EVs become a key to unlocking greater #EV adoption."

Read it + weep.
How a U.S. electric vehicle battery technology became Chinese

To be fair, German manufacturers aren’t much better with their trim packages or options for ICE vehicles 😅

Yes but it’s wasteful to put in slow chargers that will be dated in five years for some marginal savings. With infrastructure when you deploy it you want it to last as long as possible. 350+ kW charging should be the minimum at this point.

It’s important not to have a scarcity mindset with this stuff. We’ve already made leaps and bounds! No need to be stuck in old tech when cost is coming down and there’s more competition.

I agree that L2, in urban and multi family contexts especially, is critical, but I don’t see how it sucks the air out of the room. ~100kW charging units shouldn’t be made anymore. Economics and tech move on. 350 kW cabinets can provide slower kW while being future proof

It won’t be overnight but I can’t see why not. Utilities, transformers, and the grid evolve. Even if the peak usage is super demanding you can supplement with batteries to buffer.
maxpatten.bsky.social
It’s a technological showcase and not ready for scale yet but I don’t think it’s controversial to say we should be pushing the envelope of battery tech and DC charging speeds if EVs want to replace ICE vehicles. Consumers do demand it, regardless of how many *need* it.

Black Mirror predicted a lot of this. But AI For victim impact evidence? That’s wild and very concerning.

The dystopian frontier is not on our homes, or even in our phones, but in our auto cabins. Every manufacturer’s record of storing data is abysmal….

What about: “I went on a long road trip in an EV with good efficiency and charging in a highly developed suburban area. It’s here” 😄

“Instead of doing their job, we have watched the Trump CFPB fire its enforcement attorneys, shut down the agency, [and] take the name off the building. So of course, that’s a giant ‘open for business’ sign for every two-bit fraudster in America.”

Also anecdotally to the affording point: see the financed TRX’s and high-specced Silverados in red counties. If something becomes desirable people will find a way (however wise of unwise that may be)

We’re going to keep updating this data because a lot is changing… intuition suggests liking Musk will be a lot easier than giving up hydrocarbons…

Toyota made a big splash with new and updated EVs.

Yet across the lineup, the real story lies beneath the surface: massive hardware upgrades, bigger batteries, upgraded motors and smarter tech:

Toyota Crown has a weird two tone thing going on—I think this is much more distinctly “Volvo” for better or worse, particularly if you look at the rear angles

John, you clearly have a lot of time on your hands. I, on the other hand, am spending ~30 seconds max at each gas station on my bimonthly cross-country road trip. Hydrogen promises to give me all of that flexibility provided I stay in California
